Went ahead and enabled proposed updates, updated the machine and rebooted, fractional scaling and display arrangement was remembered. When logging into x11 there was a "big" flicker and display fragments but cleared up once shell loaded. on wayland I dont get the options for frac. scaling even when its enabled. Im using a Radeon 5700XT, with xorg. Pretty much same issue as Simone Liguori. In my case, the error was caused by a full /home filesystem. I was reading everything and I want to make sure this is the same issue. Usually this will happen on my desktop if I leave it on for a long time, I have never seen it on my laptop. I just had it with 14 day uptime and patched with all updates during that time. From what I think something regarding this stops working after having been patched, after a reboot everything is fine again and not reproducible until a few updates have been installed again without rebooting. I am affected by this bug. I first noticed during Oneiric Ocelot, but it happened again today and I am using Ubuntu 12.04. Gabriel, I will try what you suggested. By the way, I have been using Ubuntu Studio 11.10 and ever since this problem started, I switched to Banshee in order to listen to music. In prior Ubuntu Studio releases (11.04 and older) I didn't have this problem. I already tried the update option and that didn't work, so now I'll try the re-installation idea. I'll post something here as soon as I find out if the Re-Installation works or not. @ Gabriel Genois, where is the 'smooth effect' that you tell me to de-activate? Do you mean under Preferences-Playback-Crossfade? That's the only place that looks like what you are calling 'smooth effect' and I disabled it but still the problem is there. I had to declare this bug as New again because originally it was declared Solved by Gabriel Genois who is the person responsible for reporting it in 2009, but it was in fact never solved. The symptoms described are the same ones that are happening when I use Rhythmbox. After I begin using it, I can listen to the first couple of songs, but then everything in Rhythmbox freezes and when I press Pause and then Play again, Rhtymbox crashes. Having closed by itself, I have no other option than to re-start it but that's kind of a hassle to do everytime I want to listen to music through Rhythmbox. I have a crash report that I gathered from the last crash and I will post it here immediately after posting this comment. Public bug reported: Rhythm Box will play a song or two, or three, then it will pause and when I try to get it to play again, it will crash. Prior to today, it never did that. There were about 75 updates available today on the Ubuntu Update Manager and I updated almost all, except for two which I know I definitely do not need (I am not blind, nor do I have any hardware that a blind person would use so I believe I don't need to update any support for braille, which are the two updates that I declined). The update didn't seem to have anything that directly referenced Rhythm Box. Prior to today, Rhythm Box was working fine and I never had any problems with it. I realize that as of lately, Banshee is the default music application, but ever since I started using Ubuntu, I got used to Rhythm Box, which is why I still use it. I tried Banshee a couple of times, but Rhythm Box felt easier to me. Yesterday, I had no problems with Rhythm Box but today I do. I could be wrong but I am almost certain that the problem is directly linked to one of the updates from today, but being that there were 75 updates and none of them directly referenced Rhythm Box, it is too hard for me to pinpoint the possible perpetrator. [Bug 885159] [NEW] Evolution contacts doesn't show all contacts in Contact Cards view
Public bug reported: I have 277 locally stored contacts. Sometimes (not sure what it is related to) when I open the Contacts view I can see contacts in the upper part of the window. However, when scrolling to the right to see more contacts they don't appear. No matter how long I wait or scroll back and forth they just won't show up. Neither does it help to go to another view and then back to contacts, the only thing that helps is to completely shut down Evolution and start it again and hope that it works this time. This is in Contact Cards view. Switching to list view I can see all my contacts. Public bug reported: After changing password for my gmail account, Online Accounts prompted me with a note: One of your online accounts needs attention and I could click a button (sorry, don't remember what it said), nothing happened when clicking this button. I then opened the Online Account settings to try and change the password, there were no obvious way to do that. There was a button that said Login, but this button didn't do anything. So I figured the only way was to delete the account and set up a new one. After selecting my account and pressing the - symbol I tried to add a new account, just to be faced with: Error creating account Error getting a Request Token: Bad Request This is the only thing that pops up, I have not gotten a chance to enter my credentials, the above is all I get when pressing the + symbol. I'm having this bug with gdm in oneiric (fresh install). It was working fine for me in natty. To begin with the gdm greeter displays a list of users only by name without any user profile pictures. The user pictures appear if I click on a user and then cancel (instead of entering password). I think this is an relevant bug. My 4yr old daughter can login by clicking a picture of herself. She can just about read her name now, but I'd rather have the profile pictures displayed. The lightdm theme does not provide this functionality, so I switched back to gdm only to find it now broken. As an aside, if anyone knows how to get profile pictures in lightdm could they let me know? The above appears in syslog each time I login. I don't know much about gtk or gdm but it would make sense if the greeter is having trouble sizing the window properly. The greeter window it creates is too small to fit the pictures of each of us. After clicking a user and clicking cancel it shows the pictures but in a scrollable pane. On natty, the whole greeter window was a little bigger so that it exactly fit the pictures. The warning: Gtk-WARNING: Overriding tab label for notebook appears 5 times (once for each row in the user list pane?). Perhaps this causes the subsequent problems with allocating the correct size? For the particular syslog entry above, I clicked a user and cancelled so that the greeter was displaying the pictures (in the pane that was still too small). In addition, when I, after trying to copy the contacts, try to access my Google contacts there are no contacts showing and I get two more error messages: This address book cannot be opened. This either means that an incorrect URI was entered, or the server is unreachable. Detailed error message: Timeout was reached And: This address book cannot be opened. Please check that the path /home/oscar/.local/share/evolution/addressbook/system exists and that permissions are set to access it. Detailed error message: Timeout was reached I have verified the path and it's there and it's writable. This had just happened to me right now, very frustrating, I lost important notes, I have Ubuntu 10.10 Linux 2.6.35-28-generic-pae #50-Ubuntu SMP i686 GNU/Linux. Then when I need to access to the wireless I move the switch again, what I expected is that the wireless card is turned on, but instead my computer got stuck. I get a black screen with some lines, the last line indicating: *checking battery state The Caps Lock key, does not seems to do nothing, I try some combinations Ctrl+Alt+F1, Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, press the power button, turn the wireless card off again, and nothing works. I was forced to press the power button by 10 seconds and to loose all my work. 2) When I try to hibernate my laptop, it gets stuck in the same place as I mentioned in (1), the only difference is that in this case, if I press Ctrl+Alt+F1 I get the screen of the TTY1, but my keyboard inputs are not recognized, then I can not login neither recover anything of my session or work. 3) I am working with the AC adapter connected, I unplugged the adapter. What I expect is that my laptop continues working normally, instead I get a message that my computer battery is critically low and *SOMETIMES* (sometimes not) my computer tries to hibernate, and as I mentioned in (2) when it tries to hibernate, my computer freezes. I *can* use xpdf usually without trouble, but it doesn't look as nice. Public bug reported: I always listen to the Arrow Classic Rock radio-stream on www.nederland.fm. A site with dutch radio station. When i play the stream in totem (standalone player, not embedded in firefox) totem stops responding when the internet connection is lost. The only way to close it is to kill totem. The problem referred in my previous comment (2006-08-07), relative to Ubuntu Dapper, is NOT present with my current configuration: - Ubuntu Edgy Eft (6.10) - Beagle Search 0.2.9 (Using Desktop Search, not using Deskbar). Now Beagle opens correctly all files with accents in their names. It is important to note that when I upgraded from Dapper to Edgy I deleted all the files and folders in ~/.beagle (except the folder config) so all indexes were rebuilt by the new version of beagle. Hello I dont know if this bug is related, but I have a similar problem. I have several files in: /mnt/windows/Documents and Settings/Hernández/ Beagle is indexing files ok, and beagle search shows the proper files when I am looking for it. But when I double-click in a file from the search window in order to open it, the asociated application cannot open it because the path to the file is malformed. For example, if the file corresponds to... /mnt/windows/Documents and Settings/Hernández/doc.htm ...then Beagle tries to open this path... file:///mnt/windows/Documents%20and%20Settings/Hern%E1ndez/doc.htm ...but the correct one should be: file:///mnt/windows/Documents%20and%20Settings/Hern%C3%A1ndez/doc.htm On the other hand, if I use te option reveal in folder the folder containing the file opens correctly in nautilus...
