[Bug 1384389] [NEW] Evince back and forward buttons does not keep last position when scrolling
Public bug reported: Scrolling in Evince does not seem to set the last location when using internal hyperlinks and Backward and Forward buttons. 1. Scroll to a place in the document where there is an internal link / hyperlink that links to another place in the document. 2. Click the internal link to go to another part of document. 3. [Bug 1364697] [NEW] Control + Backspace eats too much text
Public bug reported: I use Control + Backspace to delete chunks of text separated by spaces. However, Gedit does not seem to recognize strings of -- (or other non-word chunks of text) as a chunk. As a result, the non-word chunk and the word chunk preceding it will be deleted. Example: In a new Gedit blank text file, type Enter, Enter, hello, Enter, Enter, Enter, - , space, space, space. Then, suppose we want to delete that chunk that is 4 # signs. Press Control + Backspace. BUG: Everything back through the beginning of hello is deleted. Expected: Only the should be deleted. ALSO: This problem occurs when using Control + [ARROW KEY] to navigate by text chunk. Strings of symbols are ignored. I think spaces next to symbols should be seen as Control+ boundaries. [Bug 206837] Re: Gedit text area has small gap between edge of text area and edge of window
Gedit 3.6.2, maximized, at the right edge: * right mouse button acts as old middle mouse button: It brings the scroll bar slider handle to it instantly and you can scroll up and down by holding down the RMB and moving it. Works fine and mostly as expected. * middle mouse button does nothing (but it can be used to grab the slider when away from the very edge of screen). * left mouse button will initiate a pagedown when clicked anywhere below the top edge of the slider handle. It will pageup when clicked above the top edge of the slider handle. Holding it down will initiate multiple page movements in the direction of the first paging, until released. On the whole, the mouse behavior seems workable again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/206837 Title: Gedit text area has small gap between edge of text area and edge of window To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gtk/+bug/206837/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 206837] Re: Gedit text area has small gap between edge of text area and edge of window
Almost there... On Xfce4.8... and Gedit 3.2.3, I cannot GRAB or DRAG the scrollbar. However, on a mouse button down along the right edge of the screen on a maximized Gedit window, the app will PageUp / PageDown depending on where I click (mouse down). But the standard, expected full control of the scrollbar (i.e. drag) is not there. On a long document, try scrolling to the bottom so it cannot page down. Now bring the mouse to the right edge, but somewhere along the drag handle. Expected: Holding down mouse will cause drag handle to change color (e.g. darken) and allow dragging. [Bug 721465] [NEW] wishlist: Gedit tabs could scroll smoothly to more easily track and switch
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit Open gedit. Open, say four or five files with long filenames in tabs. Make the window narrow enough so that some file's tabs are not visible. Use the mouse scroll wheel on the tabs to move between them. ISSUE: Because - gedit's tabs don't show partially, and - switching to tab left or tab right is not smoothly animated, it make it difficult to use the visuo-spatial benefit of tabs to locate the open file you are interested in. If there was smooth scrolling (animated, rather than abrupt) and allowed partial (visually clipped) tab display, I would not overscroll past the desired document as much, and I would remember which direction (left or right) the document I want to switch to is. With a window narrower than enough to accommodate the number of files (tabs) I have open, there seems to be little benefit to having tabs at present. I might as well just have a little box/region where scrolling the mouse cycles through files until I find the right one (or use the Documents menu). Only if the true spatial idea is conveyed meaningfully will the user be able to take advantage of the metaphor of spatially arranged tabs. ** Affects: gedit (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gedit in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/721465 Title: wishlist: Gedit tabs could scroll smoothly to more easily track and switch -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Still in the Jaunty version of Ubuntu in: Document Viewer 2.26.1 There still is no option for enabling/disabling this inertia/momentum effect of dragging the document around. That is, the behavior is that the document is thrown around when the mouse-drag is released in motion. Note that there is also a rubber bumper behavior that seems to also come with this inertial effect. If you throw the document such that the limit of scrolling is reached, then the document will bounce back as if it has hit the side of a pool table bumper. A) These physical-analog behaviors is non-standard and unexpected. This dragging behavior is inconsistent with other page dragging applications (e.g. Eye of GNOME 2.26.1 image viewer does not behave this way). Hello, yes. That bug seems to encompass the more general problem that the location bar buttons and the fwd/bkwd history navigation are not synchronized properly (or at least with expected behavior). [Bug 363063] [NEW] Virtual screen resolution confirmation dialog confusing
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center I have a laptop connected to an external monitor. I used the Monitor Resolution Settings dialog to set the resolutions for the two monitors (internal, external). When I chose equal resolutions for both and then clicked Apply, I was shown the dialog displayed in the first of the two attached screencaptures. As a User Experience, this is frustrating and confusing for a couple of reasons. E.g. * I do not even know what the terminology of virtual resolutions. What is that and how would I or should I manage it? * What is the configuration file that is mentioned? Which file? * It seems like this is some nonstandard workflow. Are there long-term repercussions for allowing this Screen Resolution to do what I assume is its job anyway? That is, if I modify this unknown file, can it be undone? Will it stop me from doing anything in the future? * What if I do not want this file to be changed? Can I still get the screen resolutions that I just asked for using the dialog? * No is the default action (it has focus), but choosing Yes is recommended according to the dialog. Which one should I do? I chose No, since I figured something bad might happen in the long run. The second screen capture is then presented to me. It has similar issues with User Experience: * I could not do what I wanted to do because of some settings that I do not know about. * Why was I offered the option of choosing the resolutions I did when I would be told that they could not be applied? * Why isn't my virtual resolution big enough to contain my screens?? Isn't this applet supposed to handle this stuff for me? Furthermore, the Help button on the Monitor Resolution Settings dialog box does nothing. That is, no window pops up, no action is taken, etc. It just presses down and up without doing anything. If there is no help to offer, then there should not be a button. I tried looking for Virtual Resolutions in the Ubuntu/Gnome help and found nothing. I think this is a generally confusing process and I still don't know what the config file is and why I need to concern myself about it and I don't know what my tradeoffs are (are there any?) for choosing to modify it or not, other than that I cannot change to some subset of all the resolution choices (which subset?). I wish it would just work by making the change to the resolutions that were listed in the initial applet. Thanks! Ubuntu Distro 8.10 with normal updates. [Bug 362091] [NEW] Selection not remembered when navigating back/forward in browser mode
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus This is a very frustrating bug that remains in Gnome 2.24.1: Nautilus 2.24.1. I think this is a bug and not really a wishlist item. Reproduce it: 1. Open home dir in Nautilus. 2. Select a subdirectory of home, say my_dir. 3. Open that dir by hitting Enter or Ctrl+o. 4. Click Nautilus' BACK button. 5. BUG: Actual Behavior is that the selection is cleared. Expected behavior is that the selection remain from the last time I viewed that directory. Caveat and inconsistency: 1. Open home dir in Nautilus. 2. Select a subdirectory of home, say my_dir. 3. Open that dir by hitting Enter or Ctrl+o. 4. Click Nautilus' UP button. 5. The behavior that I would expect for going BACK is is found! The subdirectory (my_dir) is now in the selection. In fact, would say this could be another bug as well. I expect the UP action to act as if I am navigating to a new directory, a fresh start. I do not want the directory I was in to be selected. Perhaps the code for BACK and UP got swapped accidentally? Example use case: I want to examine a directory's contents before doing something with it (copying, moving, deleting, etc.): 1. Open my home directory in Nautilus. 2. Double-click some directory, say my_dir to view its contents. 3. I see that it's some stuff I want to copy to a flash drive. 4. Use Nautilus' Back button to go back to my home directory. 5. Assuming that the my_dir directory remains selected, I can easily pick it out in the long list of files without worrying if I got the right one or not. I can even do a Edit-Copy without having to find my_dir again and reselect. This bug may be related to Bug #64287 (spatial nautilus should remember selected items), but that deals with spatial nautilus and with closed windows. [Bug 362094] [NEW] Navigating Up/to parent preselects the child directory (in Nautilus)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus In Nautilus, in browser mode, I think: 1. Use the Gnome Places menu to open the user's Documents directory in Nautilus. 2. Notice that (correctly) no files or directories in the Nautilus window. I would not expect any to be selected, of course. 3. Navigate to the parent directory by either clicking the Up button or Menu: Go--Open Parent. 4. BUG: Notice that the selection set is not empty. It should be. The Documents directory is preselected, even though, as far as I am concerned (and as up convention in other OS's goes) this is a new navigation to this parent directory. Note that when opening a directory from within a Nautilus window, no files or directories are ever preselected, as expected. It is this up that does it for some (buggy) reason. This bug is directly related to another one I posted, Bug #362091. It seems that the selection code for Back and Up should be exchanged in order for their behaviors to work as expected. Thanks! [Bug 362112] [NEW] Nautilus location bar buttons take us backwards in history, but not forwards
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Using Nautilus in browser mode: 1. Gnome Places -- Home Folder (for someuser). This brings up a new Nautilus window. History menus: Back: empty. Fwd: empty 2. Open the Music directory. Back: someuser. Fwd: empty 3. Open a subdirectory of Music, e.g. Beach Boys. Back: Music, someuser. Fwd: empty 4. Click the Location Bar Button someuser. Back: empty. Fwd: Music, Beach Boys. 5. Click on Location Bar Button Beach Boys. Back: someuser. Fwd: empty BUG: It seems inconsistent and strange that clicking on the location bar buttons that represent the directory path would take me backwards in the history. It is then inconsistent and strange that clicking on the buttons that are ahead of the current button do NOT take me forward in the path. That is, when I click them for directories that are parents, grand- parents, etc. of the current/working directory, then I am actually somehow/someway navigating in the navigation history stacks. But when I click on a child, grand-child, etc. in the location bar buttons, then I am actually starting a new path (clearing the fwd stack). Perhaps this is by design, but if so, then I think the rules for these buttons should be clearly stated in a design document. Each step/behavior should be able to be conveyed (even if it is non- deterministic) in the Gnome Nautilus Help. [Bug 353951] [NEW] Gnome Save As dialog's Recently Used does not include directories
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evince When using the Save A Copy function in Evince (or Save As in other apps), I see that the Recently Used selection in the Places column on the left only lists filenames that have been used before in saving. It should prioritize showing the recently used *directories* instead of or in addition to the filenames. I use a workflow similar to what is described in bug 151079. That is, I might be downloading several documents, reviewing each, and if they are useful, I will Save a Copy to a local directory. I think bug 151079 is right that the save-as dialog should retain the last-used directory as the initial location so I can simply press Save to put the copy in the right location. However, I actually have a handful (2-3, often) directories that I would like to store these files that I downloaded and viewed. I see the Recently Used as acknowledgement that most-recently-used (MRU) lists are a useful tool for providing links to documents and locations. Never in using Evince, though, have I actually saved over another copy of an existing pdf. This might be useful for some, but much more useful to many (I imagine, and certainly for me) would be the case where I save to the same directories over and over again. ** The Recently Used list, therefore, should present some kind of list of MRU directories. And, corresponding to the bug 151079, the top of the list should be the initial location of that Save a Copy dialog. ** I believe this problem is not specific to Evince, but is a problem with Gnome's Save As dialogs in general. I see that the Recently Used list seems to be shared around Gnome and that it is filtered in the dialog box by file type. Given that this filter does not filter out directories in the other views (e.g. home dir), it would not be inconsistent behavior. The Nautilus browser seems to have access to MRU directories (more generally, places/URIs). This History is available in the Nautilus Side Pane. However, this Side Pane does not seem to be available in the Save As dialogs. ** Attachment added: Nautilus' History list of MRU places as a suggested solution http://launchpadlibrarian.net/24703067/Screenshot-History.png -- Gnome Save As dialog's Recently Used does not include directories https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/353951 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 353951] Re: Gnome Save As dialog's Recently Used does not include directories
In fact, if the MRU list of directories was somehow part of the Save in folder drop-down menu-list, then I would rarely need to use the full/extended Save As dialog that shows up when the Browse for other folders arrow is turned down (revealed/expanded). That would be even more ideal to skip looking at file lists completely. Again, I think this is a Gnome bug, not Evince particularly. -- Gnome Save As dialog's Recently Used does not include directories https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/353951 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 343448] [NEW] This PDF crashes Evince after a certain page
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evince I opened the attached PDF with Evince and then scrolled to the end. The evince window was blank for a short moment and then it closed or crashed without warning. I assumed that the blank viewer part of the window was Evince loading or rendering that portion of the PDF (i.e. the last couple of pages.). Pages up to and including 21 work. But when p22 and beyond is shown then the thing closes on me. This even happens if I type the page number (21) into the page box at the top. Now this PDF will not stay open AT ALL, because Evince remembers (to my usual delight) the position that I left it. Now it just brings up p24 (last test) and crashes immediately. ProblemType: Bug Architecture: amd64 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.10 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/evince Package: evince 2.24.1-0ubuntu1 ProcEnviron: PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: evince Uname: Linux 2.6.27-11-generic x86_64 ** Affects: evince (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug -- This PDF crashes Evince after a certain page https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/343448 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 337537] [NEW] Vertical panel causes icon right click menu to draw up instead of down
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox IThe Rhythmbox notification area (aka system tray) icon draws its right- click menu up instead of down when the Gnome Panel is oriented vertically. 1. Make your Gnome Panel orient vertical by moving it to the left side of the screen. 2. Start up Rhythmbox so the notification area icon is present. 3. Right-click on the Rhythmbox icon. 4. BUG: The menu is drawn UP from that icon. It should be drawn DOWN. That is, the bottom of the menu (Quit) is drawn just above the icon, with the rest of the menu's contents continuing above. Compare the Rhythmbox menu behavior to (right-click) menus from other Gnome Panel applets and notification area icons (e.g. NetworkManager Applet 0.7.0). The NetworkManager Applet 0.7.0 menu correctly draws down when the panel is vertical. Drawing up is both inconsistent with other applications and expectations. It is also less convenient since the must-used operations are now farthest from the click. I think that Rhythmbox should not be responsible for determining the location of this menu, and should follow whatever methods that NetworkManager Applet 0.7.0 uses for displaying its ordered menu. [Bug 335176] [NEW] pdf, ps thumbnails do not resize up
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus When I use either the Desktop's Stretch Icon or the Zoom/View Size feature in the Nautilus window, the thumbnail preview icons for PDF and Postscript (.ps) files do not resize up beyond the 100% zoom size. The actual icon size does resize properly, but the image of the thumbnail does not scale up accordingly (see screenshot). Note that the thumbnail images do seem to scale down properly when zooming out. I would love to have scalable PDF and PS preview thumbnails. Also, it would be more consistent with the behavior of text files and image files that do seem to scale up. Note also that in the Nautilus window, this bug occurs with Icon View, List View, and Compact View. However, the scaling at which the error occurs seems to change with each view. With Icon View, the thumbnails do not scale up after 150%. With List View, it is 200%. With Compact View, it is 200%. Now, after removing the ~/.thumbnails directory, and refreshing the directory view (or revisiting it), I see that the bug still occurs. I.e., recreating the thumbnails did not seem to fix it in any way. [Bug 329609] [NEW] Juicer should support paranoia/cdparanoia
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: sound-juicer I really like the simplicity of Sound Juicer. However, the CDs I have are somewhat scratched. I like using the CDParanoia and related tools to get the best possible rip of the CD. I would like this support added to Sound Juicer. I currently use Grip ( http://www.nostatic.org/grip/ ) that is set up to use cdparanoia ( http://www.xiph.org/paranoia/index.html ). Sound Juicer is easier to use and better integrated with Gnome. [Bug 321723] [NEW] screen resolution panel applet provide direct access to MRU screen resolutions
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center Feature Request: The Gnome panel applet that is turned on by the Monitor Resolution Settings dialog should allow the user to switch screen resolutions directly from its drop-down menu. [Bug 14571] Re: Provide a means to change the keyboard layout from gdm login screen?
I upgraded my Ubuntu distro from 8.04 to 8.10 (64-bit multi-core / SMP version). The default (Human?) login screen for my system allows me to change the *language*. However, the *layout* within a language still seems to be unavailable for changing. I am using English. I installed the system with the qwerty layout, but use Dvorak after logging into my Gnome session (that is, on logging in using the Ubuntu default login screen). I am proficient in Dvorak and cannot use qwerty naturally. In Gnome, the keyboard layout is easily changed and that is what I am used to. Expected behavior: At the login prompt, the keyboard layout (in addition to language) should be changeable to at least those that are used by the various users of the system. Actual behavior: Language is changeable at the login prompt, but the keyboard layout within the layout is not. IMO, this bug is not yet resolved. -- Provide a means to change the keyboard layout from gdm login screen? https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/14571 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 295990] Re: Keyboard layout reset after attaching USB keyboard
Hello, I experience this bug. After plugging in the extern USB keyboard into my laptop, the external keyboard uses the qwerty (non-default for me) layout. But, the laptop's own (ps/2?) keyboard remains with the original keyboard layout that I had as my default at the time I plugged the external keyboard in. I use the 'Keyboard Indicator 2.24.1' applet for switching between two layouts. Note that after plugging in the external usb keyboard, the Keyboard Indicator applet: is no longer able to switch between different layouts; and it indicates with it's mouse-hover popup info that I am now using the qwerty layout. However, my internal laptop is still using my original (Dvorak). Neither the internal or external keyboard can have their layouts changed/alternated using the applet the way I could before plugging in the external. Gnome Version: 2.24.1 Distro: Ubuntu 8.10 (via upgrade) Attached is the same 'lspci -vvnn' output. Note that restarting X by logging out or Ctrl+Alt+Backspace will put everything back in order again, provided I do not plug keyboard in *after* my X Gnome session has started.
