[Bug 1028518] Re: Fn keys such as brightness and volume stopped working after update

2012-08-06 Thread rCX
I also have an Intel machine, in my case the hotkeys would suddenly
stop working. Did you testing the keys on LiveCD/LiveUSB as it says in
the guide you posted? If they work then you can be sure it's not a
hardware problem.

[Bug 1028518] Re: Fn keys such as brightness and volume stopped working after update

2012-08-02 Thread rCX
This has happened to me several times but it might not be a problem with
Ubuntu. I have a Thinkpad Edge 14 and I dual boot both Ubuntu and
Windows 7. Whenever this happens the Fn keys stop working in both
Windows and Ubuntu which indicates that it's a BIOS/hardware issue. I
usually fix it by simply flashing the BIOS.

Apparently it's a common problem with Edges:

[Bug 44082] Re: GNOME Panel icons (on right side) move apparently randomly on session start in some situations

2010-05-15 Thread rCX
For all of you still suffering from this bug, I attached a script called
save-panel which works around this bug. It reads the icon positions
from gconf and generates a second script, restore-panel, which
restores the icon locations to their saved positions. To use it...

1. Copy save-panel to your home folder.

2. Open the terminal. Run cd ~
3. Make it executable using chmod +x ./save-panel

4. Run ./save-panel, this will generate the restore-panel script in
the current directory.

5. To test the restore-script, move a few icons on your panel and then
run ./restore-panel.

The panel should restart with the icons in the right place.

If the script worked correctly, it can then be added to the Ubuntu's
Startup applications to fix icon reshuffling on startup...

1. System - Preferences - Startup Applications.

2. On the Startup Programs tab click Add

3. Enter Restore Panel for name.

4. Browse to your restore-script in your home folder for the command.

5. Press save.

When Ubuntu starts up, the panel will be restarted and the icons
locations will be restored.

[Bug 49348] Re: List view in Nautilus does not allow dragging a selection by mouse

2009-06-16 Thread rCX
For clarity here are the steps to reproduce it...
1. Open a folder in Nautilus using Icon View or Compact View

2. Hold down the left mouse button and drag the cursor so that a
selection box appears. Use the box to easily highlight multiple files.

3. Switch to List View and try step 2.

4. Be very annoyed as no selection box appears.

To workaround this users have to...

A. ...swith to Icon View or Compact View and perform step 2.

B. ...remember the Ctrl hotkey. Hold down Ctrl and select the files one
at a time.

C. ...remember the Shift hotkey. While holding down the Shift, choose
the 1st and last file. All files between (including the 1st and last)
should be highlighted.

I also think drag-select should be allowed in List View. This will reduce the
frustration level in newbies like me :-)
while making nautilus easier to use.

After compiling the attached code using gcc OpenUrlFile.c -o

then browse to OpenUrlFile.out before selecting it in the Open With tab.
