[Bug 1723362] Re: gnome-software spams error messages to journald and causes 100% CPU usage

2017-11-10 Thread The Bright Side
Same issue here! Note that it also causes the syslog file to grow
indefinitely and thus fills up your root.

[Bug 938751] Re: jpeg images are washed out or colors are skewed

2017-11-02 Thread The Bright Side
Bug still occurs in Ubuntu 17.10, Xorg session (never tried Wayland).

Though all this probably known by now, a bit of extra information:

On my PC, this issue occurs with Gimp, Opera (probably other browsers
too), Darktable. XnViewMP is not affected. As somebody mentioned above,
it likely affects any app that uses the ICC profile set on your system.

Disabling the ICC profile does the trick. However, if you do it via
command line as suggested in comment #14, the ICC profile will be back
after you reboot. You'll need to disable it in the colors tool
(accessible from Settings).

[Bug 1292398] Re: Second screen position isn't saved from one session to another

2015-11-12 Thread The Bright Side
Guys, this is just a total shot in the dark and probably won't work, but
has anybody tried installing the nvidia-modprobe package? I did this
some time ago (I think during 14.10) to fix issues with Darktable.
Around the same time, but possibly only later, the second-screen issue
disappeared for me. It never occurred to me until now, but there just
mght be a connection?

I've been using nvidia-modprobe ever since, so I don't know if this has
anything to do with it and frankly, I don't think so. But perhaps give
it a shot and report back?

[Bug 1265224] [NEW] EoG: Washed-Out Colour Contrast when Viewing JPG exported from Darktable

2013-12-31 Thread The Bright Side
Public bug reported:

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Download and unzip http://www.knowingme.org/darktable-contrast-bug.zip (this
archive only contains image files)
2. Import IMG_3082.CR2 into Darktable 1.4, using the "image" option in "import"
module in left sidebar in Darktable's Lighttable
3. Export to JPG using the "Export Selected" module in right sidebar in
Darktable's Lighttable
4. Export to 16-bit PNG using the "Export Selected" module in right sidebar in
Darktable's Lighttable
5. Compare both exports (JPG and PNG) in EoG. Notice: PNG displays correctly,
JPG has colours and contrast washed-out.
6. Open PNG in Gimp
7. Export as JPG
8. Open Gimp-converted JPG and straight-from-Darktable JPG in EoG
9. Compare back to back. Notice: straight-from-Darktable JPG is washed-out, but
JPG converted from PNG displays correctly.
10. Open both JPGs in Gimp, compare back to back. Notice: both display
identically.

Actual Result:
When exporting an image from Darktable as JPG, EoG displays the image with
washed-out contrast, brightening the dark parts and revealing compression
artifacts. It seems colour vibrance gets lost as well. The package referenced
in step 1 above contains Darktable-JPG.jpg, which can be used for easy
comparison in various programs, e.g. EoG vs. Chrome, Firefox, Gimp, GThumb.

Expected Result:
EoG should display JPGs exported from Darktable with correct colours.

Notes:
1. Darktable-JPG.jpg was exported straight from Darktable. Open in EoG vs. any
other viewer and compare.
2. When exporting from Darktable to PNG, the PNG displays properly in EoG.
3. When converting that PNG to JPG with e.g. Gimp or Phatch, the resulting JPG
will display properly in EoG (repro steps 6-10). Reference:
Darktable-PNG-Gimp-JPG.jpg was created following repro steps 6-10 and can be
used for easy comparison. Open in EoG vs. any other viewer and compare.
4. It seems Darktable writes JPGs in a way that EoG is not compatible with. No
other image processing programs seem to write JPGs the same way as Darktable,
nor do any other viewers seem to mind Darktable's JPGs.
5. This may seem like a very specific use case at first glance, but it does
mean that any photographers using Darktable (which is among the most popular
raw processing suites for Linux) will move away from EoG to view their JPGs.
6. Ubuntu 13.10, 64 bit. EoG 3.8.2.

[Bug 1067700] Re: Sound Settings crashes when USB audio mixer selected as input

2012-11-05 Thread The Bright Side
Hey guys,

while you continue experiencing this bug, here's a workaround:
http://freedesktop.org/software/pulseaudio/pavucontrol/

This program is readily available in the Ubuntu repos and replaces
Ubuntu's own Sound Settings. Look for "pavucontrol" in Synaptic or
Software Centre. After installation, it's in your applications as
"PulseAudio Volume Control". It does everything the Sound Settings do
and works like a charm.

[Bug 1067700] Re: Sound Settings crashes when USB audio mixer selected as input

2012-11-04 Thread The Bright Side
Affects me too. Ubuntu 12.10, 64 bit, Gnome Shell 3.6. It happened right
after installation in Unity, then started working when I installed and
switched to Gnome Shell. Today, I found the Sound Settings are broken
again.

Same behaviour as for Def Sum. Crashes immediately after clicking on it.
Works when I unplug my USB card, but shows no card installed (only a
dummy device). I tried fore-reloading alsa and plugging the USB card
back in, but then it crashes again.

Any help would be highly appreciated. I really really want to configure
my sound settings.

[Bug 530542] Re: Nautilus window quits on unmounting [when partition is launched from places menu]

2011-11-14 Thread The Bright Side
This bug occurs again in Ubuntu 11.10, 64 bit, Nautilus 3.2.1. I am
running Gnome Shell.

Steps:
1. Insert USB device or mount NTFS partition of hard disk
2. Open Nautilus
3. Click on "Eject" icon next to device

The following behaviours are observed:
a) The USB device (not hard drive partitions) is unmounted and then disappears
from the Devices list
b) Nautilus exits immediately upon clicking the "eject" icon

Reproduced: 5/10

[Bug 439448] Re: Visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2010-10-16 Thread The Bright Side
Here we go. I used GIMP again this morning, and two reboots later, my
icons were (a bit) scrambled again. More notably, my wallpaper was
dislocated - it was slightly moved to the right and to the bottom,
leaving black/corrupted areas above and to the left. That's new.

If it helps, in conjunction with GIMP, I also use Eye of Gnome. I cycle
through my pictures with it and if I want to retouch one, I open it in
GIMP from Eye of Gnome.

[Bug 439448] Re: Visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2010-10-16 Thread The Bright Side
Hey guys, are you using GIMP?

This may be a shot in the dark, but two days ago, I retouched photos in
GIMP for about 3 hours, then shut down. The next morning, my icons on
the top panel were badly scrambled. Usually, only my "Show Desktop" icon
is affected (the right third is overlapped by the neighbouring graphic).

I moved the panel to the left and back to the top, and since then, it's
been fixed (except "Show Desktop"). I haven't used GIMP since, though,
either.

[Bug 519583] Re: can't add, move, unlock applets & no clock

2010-05-06 Thread side
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuNetbookEdition/ConvertGnomeSession
: This is not a fix ! Thanks to didrocks to give this trick to people
but it won't help me.

Personally I need both of the session for a public area. Netbook Remix
is for free use (Web surfing and some other stuff) and gnome is for
teaching people how to use computer under GNU/Linux.

I have removed all of applet in netbook-remix using gconf-editor and
apt-get removing some indicator-* stuff (and gwibber). I finally only
have the sound applet wich I want, and one annoying thing, there is
still an applet telling me there is "no notifications". This one I can't
remove 'cause It will create a bug at login :
OAFIID:GNOME_IndicatorApplet is missing or something like that. That's a
pity because it does not change anything to the system but as the applet
isn't there anymore the system is complaining about that ... Allright so
I let it go ...

[Bug 504612] Re: Nautilus freezes when expanding large trees in tree view

2010-01-08 Thread The Bright Side
I should note that while trying to reproduce this bug with gdb, I had
some issues. At the first attempt, gdb wouldn't accept CTRL-C, and when
I finally got its command prompt back, I couldn't enter anything there.
I tried a couple more times to reproduce the bug, and at one point, it
was fixed: Nautilus opened the folder without any problems. I had to
reboot my PC to get Nautilus to freeze again. Here's the backtrace:

[Bug 504612] [NEW] Nautilus freezes when expanding large trees in tree view

2010-01-07 Thread The Bright Side
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Steps to Reproduce:
1 - Open Nautilus with side pane in tree view
2 - Create folder with numerous subfolders containing files (>500 folders)
3 - Try to expand tree view for folder containing >500 subfolders

For a couple of weeks now, Nautilus has been freezing when I access any
of the folders in my CD collection, which currently contains 572 albums,
each in its own subfolder in the CD collection folder. When Nautilus
tries to expand the tree view for the collection, it freezes.

Curiously, this never happened before, Nautilus has only been having
this problem recently, even though my CD collection has not changed
much. Before, Nautilus expanded the entire tree in a matter of seconds.
