[Bug 387431] Re: Network Manager vs Network Settings

2009-06-22 Thread steelhoof
The issue that led me to post as a papercut is the two appear to use the
same information and perform the same task on the surface. In depth it
is confusing which tool should be used for what configuration and which
tool will proved a still there after reboot configuration.

I think modifying the choice of words in the dialogs will correct the
confusability concern. This issue is more apparent for a user coming
from a Windows or Mac environment where launching a single
tool/interface dialog/wizard does it all.

Is your bug that Network Settings is too confusing to use easily? That
is too big to be considered a paper cut, because it would involve a
usability evaluation of the entire application and a massive interface
 redesign.

If you can identify a single, specific change that would make Network
Settings less confusing, please detail it and perhaps we can address it
as a paper cut; otherwise, please mark this bug invalid.

Status in “gnome-control-center” source package in Ubuntu: New

 Bug description:
It is confusing and frustrating when trying to set an ip address etc on a
 system

For the New to Gnome/Ubuntu system a user is offered the option to reset
the network settings in Network Settings, but they won't be accepted.

Network manager will allow the settings to be set and retained.

 Clarification needed.

 Confusion == a papercut

2009-06-16 Thread steelhoof

Thanks for the info...
I guess it is time to move to 9.x.

I will do so tonight and retest the bugs

This bug is caused but the click speed being too low or ignored!

What happens is when you right click an item it acts as though you've
help the right button in (try this yourself on a file item in nautilus),
holding the right mouse button will select the item your hovering when
 you release the button.

I had this happen on 8.04 and 8.10 - but not 9.04 (so may be fixed?)

 Bug description:
When trying to right click and select from choices, the mouse action will
autoselect a menutask and perform the action. Annoying in natulis and text
documents. Almost crippling at times in Firefox.

When the mouse is placed over a link, object or in a page and the mouse is
right clicked, the same action will be repeated time and again until the
mouse is selecting at a different point on the desktop. If an object or
link is in position a, the same autosection of a task will occur. If the
object or link is moved to position b, the mousing activity is typically
 normal.

System is a Dell Mini9, and to date no updates have affected this action.
apt-get upgrade is run weekly at a minimum. Other bugs have been corrected
 with the updates.
