[Bug 1953196] [NEW] gnome-terminal misreads a fediverse identifier as an email
Public bug reported: On the fediverse ( the free software social media network of networks - https://jointhefedi.com/ ) the identifier format is @username@hostname unlike email which is username@hostname What happens: if you have a fediverse user displayed in your terminal, gnome-terminal deduces that it is an email and if you right click it, you are given the option to 'Copy Mail Address' and 'Send Mail To' instead of just 'Copy' What should happen: You should, instead, be given the option to 'Copy Fedi Address' (and, better yet, optionally 'Send DM To') instead of just 'Copy'. [Bug 1728474] [NEW] ctrl-alt-f1 closes all running programs
Public bug reported: Since upgrading to Ubuntu 17.10 artful when I go to tty via alt-ctrl-f1, I am presented with a gdm3 login screen. This in and of itself is OK, as long as it's a lock screen. But it's not - all of my running programs were closed(most of them without saving). This makes the desktop behave similar to a phone, so I could see this as being a potential feature to some...but for those of us running servers and all kinds of programs, with 1000s of tabs open...it's kind of an abrupt surprise to enable by default end result actual behaviour: alt-ctrl-f1 logs out & closes all running applications desired behaviour: alt-ctrl-f1 either does nothing (if you are on tty 1) or locks the screen, does not close all running applications. [Bug 1725389] [NEW] 'authentication required to change privacy settings' you don't actually need to authenticate
Public bug reported: Setup : * 2 users. one of them has sudo access, the one i'm logged into (gnome/weyland default in artful desktop) doesn't * ubuntu 17.10 artful * gnome-control-center: Installed: 1:3.26.1-0ubuntu4 * redshift: Installed: 1.11-1ubuntu1 Went to settings->privacy->location settings and changed to location services = on and then hit the 'x' on the 'location services' window. it did not change from 'off' to 'on' on the 'privacy' window, however when i restarted redshift (which until that point had not been working) redshift immediately started working. (This suggests to me that until that point location services was, in fact off, and when i turned it on, it was turned on). However, a few seconds later the authorization prompt came up, graying the screen asking to authenticate to make changes to my privacy settings(the change which was already made and working, as evidenced both by working redshift and the fact that if I went into privacy settings, I would see location services 'in use' instead of 'off') "Authentication Required" "To change your privacy settings you need to authenticate..." I hit 'escape', and it reopened, I hit 'escape' and it went away, for about 3 minutes. Then it came back. It would continue to come back, prompting me twice every about 3 minutes until I gave the password to the user (that was not logged in). This seems broken. [Bug 1620087] [NEW] please consider showing list of apt mirrors to choose from
Public bug reported: Debian's package managers have had this option on install since the early 2000s. steps to find this 1) Click gear in top left hand corner 2) Software & Updates 3) Other Software tab 4) add the window then asks for "APT line:", ie something to insert into /etc/apt/sources.list -- of course what we should be doing here is adding our own mirror from the many mirrors in places like https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archivemirrors - but it would be far better for this (or some) list to be provided, and for the user to click on one of the available mirrors, in addition to having the ability to manually enter an 'apt' line here. [Bug 1421483] Re: All keyboard input fails: IBUS-WARNING **: Events queue growing too big
While I try to replicate without ibus(doesn't look like it's replicating without it), really there's 3 things going on here 1) ibus process fds are being used: you could see this as an ibus issue (though that wasn't certain until #17) 2) firefox and arora cause the creation of fds within the ibus process which are never cleaned up : I guess you could view that as an ibus issue, but whether it's an ibus issue or arora/firefox issue isn't clear to me 3) chromium-browser, libreoffice, empathy, easytag and gnumeric: silently failed on ibus failure(though in some cases there was a warning warning that something *could*) happen. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to empathy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1421483 Title: All keyboard input fails: IBUS-WARNING **: Events queue growing too big To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/arora/+bug/1421483/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Apparently you don't have to invoke Arora from within emacs to trigger this: even just invoking it on the commandline will suffice. arora (wait till it opens) here's the trigger: for x in `seq 1 1024` ; do arora www.purple.com/?q=$x ; sleep 2; done arora *does* use more fds chromium-browser *does not*.

[Bug 1421483] Re: All keyboard input fails: IBUS-WARNING **: Events queue growing too big
OK here's what I think happened, and why I think it has happened. Every morning I run an emacs macro (fset 'traverse-hyperlink-line (format (shell-command \%s \C-e sleep 1;\)\C-x\C-e\C-f\C-p\C-k\C-d web-browser)) that causes about 25-100 calls to web-browser(in this case arora). So long as Arora stays open, it does *not* release its file descriptors in the ibus process. You can confirm this by running emacs with a text file full of 100 URLs, opening arora(it has to be open already, otherwise it will only open one tab) Esc-100 M-x traverse-hyperlink-line This will open up about 100 files in the proc fdinfo directory for ibus- daemon reachable by cd /proc/`ps -ea | grep ibus-dae | awk -F' ' '{print $1}'`/fdinfo as counted by ls | wc -w This is true even after you've closed the tabs that were opened in this fashion and in fact even after you've closed arora and emacs! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to empathy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1421483 Title: All keyboard input fails: IBUS-WARNING **: Events queue growing too big To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/1421483/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1421483] Re: All keyboard input fails: IBUS-WARNING **: Events queue growing too big
Is it possible that the attempt to log this error message tries to open a file, and fails because ...wait for it, there's no more open files allowed for the ibus/glib2 using process? (given a default ulimit -n of 1024 for this process?). And that all you need to do is to force ibus to use 1024 files at once to trigger this? [Bug 1345098] [NEW] totem volume control is empty in fullscreen mode
Public bug reported: In multiple videos of different filetypes, if I go into fullscreen mode, wiggle the mouse to get the control bar at the bottom, including the volume control button, and then click on the volume control button, I see a window pop up where there should be a volume control slider, about a quarter of the size of the volume control slider, but there's no volume control slider in it. It's just empty. I can unclick and make it disappear and click and it reappears -- but never with the slider in it. I've attached a screenshot that shows this in progress -- note the little message bubble attached to the volume control icon -- that's all you get to control the volume. [Bug 1323038] [NEW] Alphabetize Desktop Icons arranged icons off screen in dual monitor setup
Public bug reported: My monitor setup is kind of backwards L-shaped; one tall, vertical monitor and one short horizontal one to the left hand size and lower down. The icons on my desktop needed to be arranged so I selected 'Alphabetize Desktop Icons' from the right click menu; the icons were alphabetized, but were placed seemingly at a vertical position that did not exist on the lower, horizontal monitor on the left. Dragging the icons to the right hand monitor allowed them to be visible. The 'Alphabetize Desktop Icons' should know the geometry of the screens enough to know not to place icons where they cannot be reached. This happens every time I Alphabetize, with or without icon alignment turned on. [Bug 350550] Re: Can't play dvd - Totem error message are not usefull
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 137527 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/137527 IANAL however Ubuntu *cannot* legally, at least in the US (and soon, perhaps ACTA-signatory countries) tell people where to get libraries that can be used to decrypt DVDs. That's one of the things which makes the DMCA so terrible of a law, is that people can and have been sued for merely linking to or printing instructions on how to download software that can defeat the Content Scrambling System on DVDs. This is an increasingly global problem, and it's not something ubuntu, if they expect not to be sued into oblivion can ignore. -- Can't play dvd - Totem error message are not usefull https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/350550 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 336543] [NEW] audio skips on some tracks
Public bug reported: Ubuntu/Intrepid Rhythmbox 0.11.6 GStreamer 0.10.21 Since upgrading to intrepid, I've noticed some of my audio tracks, when played by rhythmbox, when played 'skip', that is you'll hear audio, then it'll stop...then it will play, then stop, then play, then stop, maybe one second at a time or so. Almost like a broken record, really. You can stop playback, and move to another track just fine, and as far as I can tell there's no errors anywhere. A minority of my files do this, I'm making a list of those that do, but it seems to be coming up at a statistically significant level, and the files are different enough that it isn't just some freak file being corrupted. Skips ococur with both rhythmbox totem-gstreamer http://thedark.jabberwocky.ca/tiny/9.mp3 is an example, I can provide others. It is unlike #139116 in that it is shorter skips. It is like #139116 in that it might concern longer files. But many of my files seem to be longer, so that might just be a biased sample. I think I get #139116 symptoms as well, but they are different - longer skips, and the rest of the file is OK. These, the entire file skips as far as I can tell.
