[Bug 658069] Re: Empty files written over gvfs by some editors

2010-10-25 Thread yareckon
Looks like there is a patch to gvfs upstream. Looks like it it is still
a bit of a workaround?
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=627567#c9 Tomas seems to
indicate this is originally a problem with fuse? Should we be worried
about issues with other backends that use fuse?

2009-11-16 Thread yareckon
in this screenshot, I've realized that this bug also sometimes affects
dialogues where directories are are the top item. Any other diagnositic
info I could give you about this machine or symptom?

[Bug 480829] [NEW] Create folder button higlights / clicks / selects first item in directory

2009-11-11 Thread yareckon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

This is a bug in the gnome file / save dialogue. If nautilus isn't the
right place to file this, please move it.

Description:
When saving a file from any application, and wishing to create a new folder to
contain the file, clicking on the Create Folder button has the effect of
selecting the first item in the list of visible files and placing the cursor in
the name of the first item, rather than creating a new Type name of new
folder folder and placing the cursor there to edit it.

Reproducibility:
Only happens to me when the default, natural sort of the files in the save file
dialog results in a file (not a directory) being the first (top) item in the
list. If I click on the listing headers ( Name | Modified ) to sort the files,
or if the first item is a directory in the default sort, the bug doesn't occur.

Ubuntu Karmic AMD64

nautilus 2.28.1-0ubuntu2

** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 438136] Re: palimpsest bad sectors false positive

2009-10-22 Thread yareckon
Hi guys, I have a 3 month old samsung ssd, which has 2179072
reallocated sectors (probably due to flash wear levelling on the drive
as I have 0 uncorrectable sector count and 0 Realocation count ). I
get yelled at every time I log into karmic that my drive is failing.
The reallocated sector count has not changed in a month of heavy usage,
so I don't think it's a drive in collapsing condition. I would also
like an error dialog that says something like

Caution! Your drive has a high number of reallocated sectors, which may be a
result of failing hardware. Currently the drive reports it is *passing* SMART
checks, which are designed to detect a failing drive, so this warning may be
incorrect. Certain types of storage such as solid state drives (ssds) have
large numbers of reallocated sectors to extend their life. It is recommended
that you back up your data in case your drive is about to fail.
What would you like to do now:
Display the error messages and stats
Inform me if the drive health further deteriorates

Naturally the scary warnings wouldn't be tempered if the SMART status
was actually failing.

What do you say? I love Palimpest, but people will ignore the warnings
if every netbook and SSD drive cries wolf.
