[Bug 106739] Re: Tag editing in rhythmbox strips all tags completely
I've spent a good few hours testing tagging with multiple and single files with the latest rhythmbox in gutsy. I have a collection of about 1300 songs, in various formats including mp3 and ogg. I've retagged at least on field on every song in my collection, and the new tags are loaded fine by other programs too. In no case of multiple editing a single tag (i.e changing the genre of a whole artist over multiple albums) did i get any problems at all. ** Changed in: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Fix Released -- Tag editing in rhythmbox strips all tags completely https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106739 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 106739] Re: Tag editing in rhythmbox strips all tags completely
I noticed that in some cases it doesn't change the tags at all. at first the change can be seen in the library, but after a rescan of the folder the tags ar back. i tried changing the permission for those files, but with no success i'm talking about *.mp3 files i don't think that they are corupted or something, because i'm talking about ~20-30% of all songs that i tried to edit, and they sound ok. -- Tag editing in rhythmbox strips all tags completely https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106739 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 106739] Re: Tag editing in rhythmbox strips all tags completely
Yeh thanks! I have now discovered (through your forum post Lukáš, that Ex Falso CAN read the tags and indeed it is only stripping of ID3v1 tags and the incorrect error messages being produced that are the bug. -- Tag editing in rhythmbox strips all tags completely https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106739 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 106739] Re: Tag editing in rhythmbox strips all tags completely
I think the only bug here is stripping of ID3v1 tags. Rhythmbox, like most of other Linux players, writes ID3v2.4 tags to files. But neither EasyTag nor Audio Tag Tool can read this version of ID3 tags.
You're right, having just opened it in VLC the tags are there. However, if you open it in any tag editing program it will show that there are no tags... -- Tag editing in rhythmbox strips all tags completely https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106739 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

What tag editing program are you using? On 4/16/07, Dan Bishop [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: You're right, having just opened it in VLC the tags are there. [Bug 106739] Re: Tag editing in rhythmbox strips all tags completely
I have tried three: easyTAG, Ex Falso and Audio Tag Tool, all from the repos. At first I thought it was a bug in easy tag, but when I realised none of the other programs could read the tags after being edited in rhythmbox, it was clear which program was at fault...
Totem also reads the tags correctly... surely it can't be a bug in three tag programs though? -- Tag editing in rhythmbox strips all tags completely https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106739 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 106739] Re: Tag editing in rhythmbox strips all tags completely
Same happens for me with MP3 files: EasyTag cannot read the tags after editing the tags in Rhythmbox, whereas Totem, MPlayer still correctly display the tags. This phenomenon does not occur when I edit tags of ogg files, that seems to work fine.

I have just tried this editing a single tag and the same thing happens! This is a major bug, I am slowly destroying my music collection without realising it... [Bug 106739] Re: Tag editing in rhythmbox strips all tags completely
I have just noticed that rhythmbox does produce some errors about this. It gives import errors in a sort of playlist style under library. It says couldn't access file: correct path to filecorrect_filename.mp34A7694 Every track has a seemingly random addition of 6 characters to its mp3 extension. -- Tag editing in rhythmbox strips all tags completely https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106739 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
Re: [Bug 106739] Re: Tag editing in rhythmbox strips all tags completely
I can confirm by running it from the command line with debug (then changing a files id3tag) that it does error with songname.mp3something However for me it still changed the id3tag correctly. I tested on a AMD XP 2000, checked id3tags in VLC. On 4/15/07, Dan Bishop [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I have just noticed that rhythmbox does produce some errors about this.
