Ok, now it doesn't crash when the sound card is unreachable, but the error message is of no help. Problem occurred without error being set. This is a bug in Rhythmbox or GStreamer I'm using hardy now, and can't test it on feisty any more. Well It's hard to tell. The misconfiguration happened during the upgrade from feisty to gutsy. I was trying thing to make rhythmbox work but nothing helped. I deleted .asoundconf and .asoundrc.asoundconf from my home and nothing changed. Then user asoundconf-gtk to select the default sound card (because I have 2 of them plus a tv card) and then rhythmbox started working. I tried to delete .asoundconf and .asoundrc.asoundconf but rhythmbox doesn't crash now. I've found that this happens only if rhythmbox can't reach the audio hardware. I had an ALSA misconfiguration and once solved rhythmbox doesn't crash.
