now show in "Details > Default Applications"
(using the current gnome-control-center or the upcoming unity-control-center

[Bug 1251087] Re: apps whose .desktop contain "NoDisplay=true" will not show up in Details> Default applications

2013-11-19 Thread Doug McMahon
re:mpv, my mistake, it needs more than just dropping NoDisplay=true in
show up under Videos & Music though the drop is needed.

(- was able to get it to show in both by adding to mpv source > /debian/mime
audio/x-vorbis+ogg; mpv %s; description="Ogg Stream"
video/x-ogm+ogg; mpv %s; description="Ogg Stream";

Also added both ^ to the .desktop (along with a few more it could use.

Still see the same with shotwell viewer, doesn't show until NoDisplay is
dropped from .desktop, then immediately is there.

[Bug 1251087] Re: apps whose .desktop contain "NoDisplay=true" will not show up in Details> Default applications

2013-11-19 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Indeed there might still be an issue here, mpv is not listed, but it's
not recommanded in "gvfs-mime --query video/x-ogm+ogg" either so it
might be a different reason.

Note that the nautilus properties page lists "mpv" so the original GTK
bug was resolved, seems like there is another similar one issue with the
combo widget used in the settings

No, the screen was from a brand new 14.04 install of last thur.s image
updated, no other alterations whatsoever. (.local is at the default
state of being empty
Same is seen in a guest session.

As far as the upstream bug report I filed it just went in a circle as
already being fixed as you've noted & apparently are seeing

If you were to install mpv from -proposed does it show in Videos?

I can't confirm that (which is why I asked for it to be sent upstream,
maybe they have a better idea about the issue)

Here the photo section lists shotwell and imagemagick ...

Do you get the same behaviour in a guest session? Maybe you have a
desktop in .local changing the behaviour or something?

2013-11-18 Thread Doug McMahon
Well I filed a bug as you asked, it was duped to the first bug I mentioned.
When I actually went to that bug I saw it was a dupe itself of the 2nd bug
mentioned.
In any case shotwell (shotwell viewer) is vnot seen in Details in 14.04
Also the same for a new package "mpv"

In both cases is NoDisplay=true is removed or changed to false then they show up
screen of 14.04 as far as shotwell

the 3.8 cycle, to ignore the mimetype handlers with NoDisplay=true.
The change turned out to be wrong and got reverted in 3.10, doing the
same here. It makes, e.g shotwell to be listed again (lp: #1238149)"

2013-11-14 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.
