[Bug 128329] Re: visual bug in gnome terminal
I observed this bug on a week old Hardy install. My xorg.conf is basically empty (generated by the alternate installer): Section InputDevice Identifier Generic Keyboard Driver kbd Option XkbRules xorg Option XkbModel pc102 Option XkbLayout de Option XkbVariantnodeadkeys Option XkbOptionslv3:ralt_switch EndSection Section InputDevice Identifier Configured Mouse Driver mouse EndSection Section Device Identifier Configured Video Device EndSection Section Monitor Identifier Configured Monitor EndSection Section Screen Identifier Default Screen Monitor Configured Monitor EndSection I never saw this before (breezy installation continuously updated to hardy). I have the same graphics chip, same screen resolution as the original reporter. Different laptop though (Thinkpad T40p). -- visual bug in gnome terminal https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/128329 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Does it work in Gutsy Beta? Please try without any xorg.xonf. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Tormod Volden (tormodvolden) Status: New = Incomplete -- visual bug in gnome terminal https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/128329 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 128329] Re: visual bug in gnome terminal
I am almost positive this is a hardware specific driver problem. I installed stock ubuntu 7.04 on a Dell Latitude D600 with a ATI Technologies Inc Radeon R250 [Mobility FireGL 9000] graphics card and a 1400x1050 screen. The configured driver was ati, I am currently using radeon I configured 6 workspaces arranges 3x2. Bringing up a number of gnome terminals, firefox and thunderbird in different workspaces. I put content in each of the apps (otherwise you can miss the error). I then switched rapidly between the workspaces.Doing this would often cause the problem within a minute, though on occasion it would take longer. Sometimes I would trigger the failure by scrolling the gnome terminal. It is interesting to note the in vi in a gnome terminal, using ^L to refresh the display would sometimes but not all times correct the repaint issue. Normal use usually took longer to show the problems. Per my earlier report - once I disabled the dri extension - I have not seen the problem since. -- visual bug in gnome terminal https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/128329 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 128329] Re: visual bug in gnome terminal
After a lot of screwing around and digging through my old hard drive for the old Xorg.0.log, I finally may have found what my work around is I disabled (commented out) the loading of the dri extension. It would seem that my previous dual headed configuration disabled that extension from comments I found in the old log file. I had not gotten to trying that configuration on the new install. So I have tried it and I have not seen the error in a small amount of testing. I did incorporate some other settings I found in various locations on the net, but none of them by themselves seemed to make a difference. I am currently running with: Section Module Loaddbe Loadi2c Loadbitmap Loadddc # Loaddri Loadextmod Loadfreetype Loadglx Loadint10 Loadvbe EndSection Section Device Identifier ATI Technologies Inc Radeon R250 [Mobility FireGL 9000] Driver radeon BusID PCI:1:0:0 Option AccelMethod XAA #Option AccelMethod EXA Option AGPMode 4 Option AGPSize 32 #Option backingstore true Option ColorTiling on Option DynamicClocks on Option EnablePageFlip true Option mtrr on Option OpenGLOverlay off Option RenderAccel true Option SubPixelOrder none Option VideoOverlay on #Option XAANoOffscreenPixmaps EndSection don't know if it makes any difference but my old driver was: (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/radeon_drv.so (II) Module radeon: vendor=X.Org Foundation compiled for 7.0.0, module version = 4.0.3 Module class: X.Org Video Driver ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 0.8 The new one is: (II) LoadModule: radeon (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//radeon_drv.so (II) Module radeon: vendor=X.Org Foundation compiled for 7.2.0, module version = 4.2.0 Module class: X.Org Video Driver ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 1.1 -- visual bug in gnome terminal https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/128329 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gnome-terminal in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
