[Bug 134809] Re: [gutsy] Gnome restart does not work in Tribe-5

2007-08-27 Thread TJ
It looks as if this could be a side-effect of the compiz --indirect-
rendering work-around in Amaranth's launchpad Compiz repository. I
chatted with him and the reliance on --indirect-rendering is due to be
removed in the coming weeks, so I think it is a case of wait-and-see but
keep an eye on it, in case further work is required.

If you think you're affected by this bug can you report if you're using
standard Ubuntu desktop-effects or a compiz package (and which compiz
repository you're using), the video chip-set maker model (e.g. Nvidia
GeForce Go 7600), and the version of the driver you're using (e.g.
100.14.11).

[Bug 134809] Re: [gutsy] Gnome restart does not work in Tribe-5

2007-08-25 Thread TJ
Confirmed with Gutsy Tribe-5 32-bit.

After pressing Ctrl+Alt+Backspace the desktop clears to just the
background image. Occasional hard-disk activity (judging by LED
flashes), Caps-Lock, Scroll-Lock, Num-Lock don't respond - LEDs don't
toggle, cannot switch to virtual console using Ctl+Alt+F1 through F5,
and CPU usage hits a constant 100% (judging by CPU fan running at
maximum). Ctl+Alt+SysReq does seem to be handled.

/var/log/kern.log does show:

kernel: [ 7219.076000] SysRq : HELP : loglevel0-8 reBoot Crashdump tErm
Full kIll saK showMem Nice powerOff showPc show-all-timers(Q) unRaw Sync
showTasks Unmount shoW-blocked-tasks

which seems to indicate the Ctl+Alt+SysReq was being handled.

/var/log/syslog shows:

gdm[5815]: WARNING: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error -
Restarting :0
