[Bug 143966] Re: gnome panel missing -Gusty

Thanks you for reporting bugs. The issue you describe doesn't look to be the
same as this one: please
open a new bug report, or find another that describes your problem. In your
case, gnome-panel is likely
to have crashed, so the bug is against gnome-panel package, not compiz.

I reported it as it concerned the gnome panel, as the title suggests. I
have noticed however, the accounts given by different people are quite
varied. My problem has been solved, so there's no point in reporting
the bug. If it has been ascertained that it's really a Compiz issue,
then I shall refrain from further comments.

Note that if you're not able to reproduce this crash, reporting it may be
pointless, since you won't be able
to give more information about it. Anyway, please open a report if you think
it is useful/needed.

The gnome panel hasn't crashed since, but I might just wanna add that
I'm now running Compiz, without any problems, as I speak. Anyway,
thanks - I'm out of this.

The same thing happened to me after the updates and I wasn't even
running the compiz effects.

What I did was right-click on the desktop, created a launcher with
xterm as the command. Following that, I double-clicked on the
launcher to open a terminal window. Then I keyed in gnome-panel and
hit enter. The panel came right back on, in the same condition before
it disappeared. You'll only have to do this once.

Confirmed, however, alt+f2 works for me. The panel is just invisible
before first mouse click.
