[Bug 1571250] Re: Old 2008 bug "Trash" has quit unexpectedly. Is still happening

2016-04-28 Thread GeeMac
Sorry I did not answer all your questions in my last post.
The error pop-up was mainly when I accessed the tool panel/taskbar at the
bottom of the screen. It is set to auto hide, so every time the bar was
accessed either by accessing a item or just inadvertently accessing it, the
trash error would pop-up.
There was also another item that used to pop up along with it. It was part of
the same group of items that included the Trash can.
That stopped some time ago. Sorry, I can't remember what that item was called.
As for restarting; yes, it came back with every restart. I turn this system
of every night so it was a daily occurrence.
I'm trying to remember what group of items this was without taring down the bar
and recreating it. It took me quite some time to get my system the way I want
it and I don't want to take any chances messing this install up. It is a total
nightmare tweaking Ubuntu along with Kodi(XBMC) from scratch, especially Ubuntu
with all the quirks to fix the and tweaks to get the GUI the way you may want
it to look. This setup is in my living room and is displayed on a 48inch /
1219.2mm TV. The Onkyo stereo is on my workbench waiting on me to replace the
bad capacitors on the HDMI control board, a known issue with the 600 series
Onkyos.

[Bug 1571250] Re: Old 2008 bug "Trash" has quit unexpectedly. Is still happening

2016-04-26 Thread GeeMac
I'll try to grab a shot of the screen via my iPhone since by time I press the
Print Screen key or any mouse movement the blank tag is gone.
As for the downgrade of Cairo; I can pull the PPA, but what version of Cairo am
I looking for? I need something to fill the blanks with. I'll pull the PPA
when i get the proper package name and version so I don't blow this HTPC up
here.
I use this HTPC dual purpose. 90% of the time it is for watching TV, DVDs,
etc. etc. The other 10% is browsing the web and research when there is nothing
to watch.

sudo apt-get install =
OR
sudo apt-get -t= install

I pinged the bug on FD.o (looks like without any success), I don't have
any contact with cairo devs unfortunately. Maybe you can get some
attention by posting to ca...@cairographics.org?

2016-04-25 Thread Alberts Muktupāvels
- Can you post screenshot?
- Does that happens always? Even when you restart?

Can you downgrade cairo?
sudo ppa-purge ppa:mitya57/test1

Restart. Does that fix your new problem?

[Bug 1571250] Re: Old 2008 bug "Trash" has quit unexpectedly. Is still happening

2016-04-25 Thread GeeMac
Hi... Well It can be a partial fix. I haven't seen the pop up error yet, but
now when I hover some items in the Task panel some of the text explanations
(tool bar tips) or what ever Linux calls them go blank or black with or without
text.
Not sure if that is related, but that started after I took a new set of updates
along with the Libcairo2 update.

Dmitry, do you have any idea how to get attention from cairo devs? Just
looked again at _get_image_surface function and still I am quit sure it
is right fix. Maybe someone from ubuntu team could review / speak with
someone from cairo?

So far, so good. Looks as if the long awaited fix took care of the issue. I
haven't seen the pop-up error yet.
I'll give it a bit more time since I haven't been using this computer for the
past three days.

Uploaded the Trusty package to the same PPA. Upgrade using just "sudo
apt-get upgrade" (the command you typed won't work as the binary package
name is libcairo2, not cairo).

I didn't notice that the reporter is using Trusty, and uploaded only the
Xenial package. Will upload a Trusty one later today.
