[Bug 16285] Re: Wrong timezone location for ex-YU Europe countries in Time Date settings

2009-07-04 Thread era
A very similar bug was fixed in the Clock applet a while back
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=519823 -- basically, the code
would guess your location based on latitude and longitude, and map to a
fairly random location from its database.

I'm guessing a similar fix should be applied for the time-admin
component (and/or down the line, this sort of logic should be
centralized into a single module or library).

** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #519823
   http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=519823

** Summary changed:

- Wrong timezone location for ex-YU Europe countries in Time Date settings
+ time-admin: User-selected time zone will not stick (for some locations)

** Description changed:

- Everytime I set my timezone Europe/Belgrade, click ok and return to the
- settings, Europe/Sarajevo shows instead.
- I tried with different cities - Zagreb, Ljubljana, Skopje - they all disappear
- after window closes and Europe/Sarajevo returns. This happens for Ex-Yugoslav
- republics only.

  Ubuntu is 5.04 final.

This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important
for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can
learn more about finding the right package at [WWW]
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this
bug as a bug in gnome-system-tools.

2007-06-01 Thread Mark Fraser
I'm having a similar problem here in England and Kubuntu 7.04. Even
though /etc/timezone shows Europe/London, System Settings:Date Time
shows my local timezone as Europe/Guernsey (BST). Going into admin mode
and changing it has no effect.

Setting TimeZone to Ljubljana in Gnome desktop, System menu, Time and Date is
ignored and sets it to Sarajevo.
I'm using 6.10 desktop.

On an updated Dapper install, I can observe the same behavior. Setting
the timezone to Europe/Belgrade does not stick. The next time I open the
Adjust Date Time option in the clock on the desktop, the TimeZone is
set to Europe/Sarajevo.

Confirming.
