Hi there
do you mean that you don't have sound at all or just the system sounds doesn't 
work?, if the second assumption is correct, does it make any difference if you 
change the Sound events and Music and Movies to Alsa instead of Autodetect 
in gnome-sound-properties?

I just did what you suggested, I even tested the settings to see if they
worked, they did, but the system sounds (which are the issue, the other
sounds work properly) still do not work at all.
