[Bug 1821523] Re: Installed snaps miss dependencies and permissions

2019-03-27 Thread Will Cooke
You don't need to. snapd will pull in everything that is needed to run the
snap. If it doesn't then the problem is with the snap. Perhaps the
snapcraft.yaml doesn't specify the interfaces correctly for example.
This is not a bug in GNOME Software.

That snaps does not have dependencies is a nice theory, but as you said
that some snaps use platform snaps and without them they do not work. So
what should this relation be?

The problem I see is that the software center does not provide the information,
which snaps are required to run an installed snap.
In the case of notepad++ I realized the dependency to wine only, because I
analyzed the problem with the snap command. But software center does not give
this information, nor does it solve the dependency.
Also when starting notepad++ no information is given, that something is
missing. It simply does not start.

So the question I have is: How the casual user should recognize what is
missing to run a snap?

[Bug 1821523] Re: Installed snaps miss dependencies and permissions

2019-03-25 Thread Will Cooke
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.

Generally speaking snaps do not have dependencies as such, everything is
bundled inside the snap. Some snaps use platform snaps to provide some
core libs, but that's not relevant in this case. FWIW, I tested the
notepad++ snap from Taqi Raza and it worked fine, all the interfaces
connected as they should have done, and I was able to browse my home
directory and open files.

GNOME Software is not in the critical path for setting permissions, and so I
have to assume that this is a problem with the snaps you were trying to
install. You should contact the snap developers for support. You can find
contact info on the store page, for example:
https://snapcraft.io/notepad-plus-plus

GNOME Software does have the ability to toggle interfaces on and off.
Click the "Permissions" button from the application details page (next
to Launch and Remove).

[Bug 1821523] Re: Installed snaps miss dependencies and permissions

2019-03-25 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
software-center does not provide snaps at all. This is either a problem
with the snap itself, or with gnome-software.

** Package changed: software-center (Ubuntu) => gnome-software (Ubuntu)
