Looks like I've found out what's going on. Basically, the colour of the graph and its background are linked to colours in the current theme. Looking at the Colours tab in the Customize Theme box from the Appearance preferences, it seems that the graph itself is set to the Windows colour, whilst the background is set to the Input Boxes colour. To make the graph visible, all you need to do is go to System-Preferences-Appearance-Themes-Customize-Colours, and set the Windows theme and Input Boxes theme to different settings, e.g. #CC and #FF respectively. I'm not sure the curves tool should use colours from the theme, in case these two colours get set to be identical, thus making the graph disappear. Any ideas? Shall I pass this on upstream to the Gimp devs?
