Facing this annoying issue on Ubuntu 23.10. Well I know it's "bad boy"
to use Non-LTS, but I had to do for another software/upgrade only
available when 23.04 wasn't released yet :-(

Any news on this? On 22.04 I had before the Upgrade (to 23.10) I didn't
have this annoying problem!

Is there any estimate when this is being solved? This is really annoying.
We upgraded the family to 22.04 LTS (using Firefox) and are now affected by

chrome's save dialog works fine -on focus- when you are on
Gnome/Wayland, it's cocked up on Gnome/X11

This annoying bug rears its ugly head since I upgraded my own and my
wifes computer to Ubuntu 22.04. This does not happen on my 18.04 laptop
or 20.04 workbox.

When using the Save As dialog, focus switches to the filter/search field
in the dialog when we start typing a name for the file. The focus change
happens after each character, so it's practically unusable.

Confirmed with Firefox (snap), Google Chrome (PPA) and Brave (snap).

I don't think this is a duplicate of the upstream bug report, because
that's about Chromium, and this  also affects Firefox.

For anyone else who ends up here and just wants to fix their UI in
Firefox, open "about:config" and set "widget.use-xdg-desktop-
portal.file-picker" to 0.

So I Hate This Glitch In The Matrix As Well!

Right Click An Image In A Browser, Tap 'V' To Save Image As...

When the Save Dialog Opens I Am Unable To Just Type The Filename I Want.

The Entire Dialog Has No Focus!

Windows Mouse Moron Do Not Understand The Frustration; They Always Use
The Mouse; It Never Occurs To Them There Is A Faster Way Of Getting
Something Done By Using The Keyboard.

I Have Found That After Tapping 'V' If I Shift+Tab Way To Another Window
Then Shift+Tab Back, The Save Dialog Is Now Focused And The Filename
Field Is Also Focused.

Hope That Helps Until Someone Fixes The Broken Interface!

I totally agree!

When I RIGHT-CLICK an image and tap V I want to immediately be able to
start typing a filename.

But NOPE!

Can't even hit ESCAPE to get rid of the SAVE dialog; because the entire
dialog is not given focus!

I have found 22.04 lacking in the user experience!

Seems A Windows Moron Mouse Only Mind Set Behind Many Of The "Broken"
Features!

Same with upload dialog and it does not remembers last directory where

This bug appeared after an upgrade from 20 to 22 LTS. I've switched back
to XOrg as Wayland needed even two clicks to focus. All new windows are
affected regardless of whether it is dialogue or not. A bit frustrated.

I upgraded to Ubuntu 22.04 yesterday and this bug now affects me.

Also, I have Mint Linux (20.3) Cinnamon (5.2.7) on another machine and
it's been like that since day 1 of the installation.

In both versions of the operating system, when using a program (Firefox,
VSCode, and Typora) that generates a Dialogue box, it does not get
focused. This means, you can't just type to use the Dialogue box, you
have to force focus on the window to use it by clicking it.

It's still happening for me, because I just tried to save a file this
morning, and had to steal the focus of the window, which meant I couldn't
just type a file name and hit enter. It's not a huge issues, but it's
annoying.

Me too. This makes the Save As dialog almost unusable as the filename

Same problem here with google-chrome-stable 101.0.4951.64-1 and firefox (snap) 
100.0.2-1
I'm using ubuntu 22.04, cinnamon 5.2.7-4, mutter 42.0-3ubuntu2.

Which is even more annoying: When I change the directory, sometimes the
file is not saved at all. This is repoducible for some directories,
ohters work.  No rule found up to now

This makes the save dialogue fairly unusable.
