[Bug 202853] Re: Keyboard accelerators interfere with keyboard input

2010-07-31 Thread Noel J. Bergman
Diuncan,

This bug is fixed, and the quoted message describes it. Basically, Jonh
changed Vinagre to default to doing the right thing, while leaving in
the option for an end user to revert to the old, broken, behavior.

[Bug 202853] Re: Keyboard accelerators interfere with keyboard input

2010-07-29 Thread Duncan Lithgow
It may be that the message now shown (Remote Desktop Viewer 2.30.2 in
Ubuntu 10.04) is relevant, it sounds to me that it is related:

quote
Vinagre comes with menu accelerators and keyboard shortcuts disabled by
default. The reason is to avoid the keys to be intercepted by the program, and
allow them to be sent to the remote machine.

You can change this behavior through the preferences dialog. For more
information, check the documentation.

This message will appear only once.
/quote

I have the problem that I simply don't understand this message... so I'm
looking to post a bug about that.

[Bug 202853] Re: Keyboard accelerators interfere with keyboard input

2009-05-18 Thread Andy Stanford-Clark
This should not be a choosable option - if you're interacting with the
remote system, you expect all the keystrokes to go through - even things
like alt-tab are sent through rather than being handled on the local
system, so to have ctrl-D (which is used very often on remote unix
systems (particularly those of us who use screen) popping up the
bookmark menu, and having no way to send through the ctrl-D, is very
anomalous.

CTRL-ALT doesn't work on 2.24.1, and I didn't notice (nor would have
understood) what it was trying to tell me on the status bar, even if it
did work.

Responding to keyboard shortcuts when the mouse is outside the remote
window seems the right way to go, IMHO

[Bug 202853] Re: Keyboard accelerators interfere with keyboard input

2009-03-12 Thread Peter Valdemar Mørch
FYI: With vinagre 2.24.1 in Ubuntu Intrepid, CTRL-ALT does nothing.

But an option is available via GConf (see bug 223060) to disable all
keyboard shortcuts - that works for me. This will become a preference in
Jaunty/2.25.2

[Bug 202853] Re: Keyboard accelerators interfere with keyboard input

2008-10-14 Thread Thomas Smith
It seems to me that the Vinagre keyboard shortcuts should only work
while the mouse / focus is on the Vinagre program itself, not on the
remote screen. I just lost some work by pressing Ctrl-W, closing the
whole screen session. Ctrl-W is a reflex, and it would take quite a
while and more lost work to learn to press Ctrl-Alt before I press it
every time (if that method works).

Failing that, I wish there was a way to change / eliminate all the
keyboard shortcuts. I'd love to turn them off completely (except for
F11, fullscreen), because I have no use for them, I only ever connect
to one or two machines.

Vinagre is really great, except for this frustrating issue.

This needs to be re-opened, as John has broken CTRL-ALT, so that not
even that method works.

[Bug 202853] Re: Keyboard accelerators interfere with keyboard input

2008-03-17 Thread Noel J. Bergman
It's listed in the status bar...

Press Ctrl+Alt to grab the cursor does not tell the user that it is
the solution to the keyboard problem. Yes, you do capture the cursor,
but it is not the cursor that is the issue, it is the keyboard, which
is fixed as a side-effect. I don't have any special investment in the
text, but something like:

Press Ctrl+Alt to attach the cursor and keyboard exclusively to the remote
(necessary to send some keystrokes).
Press Cltr+Alt to resume normal cursor and keyboard sharing.

might be clearer. And what is necessary to send Ctrl+Alt to the remote?
VMware uses a trick with Ctrl+Alt+Space to do it.

Hi.

You should grab the cursor, by pressing CTRL-ALT, in order to do things
like that.

[Bug 202853] Re: Keyboard accelerators interfere with keyboard input

2008-03-16 Thread Noel J. Bergman
Thank you for the information that Vinagre requires using CTRL-ALT to
lock / unlock the keyboard to the remote system in order to avoid keys
being trapped. Requiring this mode of operation is a your choice, but
since RealVNC, TightVNC, etc., do not require this mode of operation,
you might want to document it in the program, e.g., a message somewhere
visible or a menu item.
