2009-08-27 Thread Dimitrios Symeonidis
Any news on this? Is this still an issue with the latest version?

Have you tried with a different player or an actual (stand-alone) DVD
player to verify it's not the DVD disc that's broken?

[Bug 221088] Re: Movie Player defaulting to Spanish

2009-04-25 Thread Evan Jeffrey
I have a problem that may be the same in the jaunty release. Multi-
language .AVIs (ripped from DVD) play a random language. Closing totem
and re-opening the same file picks a new language. It is possible the
languages are not tagged correctly in the .AVI, but it doesn't seem like
it should be random in any case.

This is made worse by bug #202288 which means that when I try to change
the language, I loose sound--I just have to reload until it picks
english.

[Bug 221088] Re: Movie Player defaulting to Spanish

2008-11-19 Thread morgan
I am having the same problem in Movie Player. I have been attempting to
play commercial DVDs (as in NOT home-burned). These default to Spanish
and I have no access to the DVD menu to change the language, nor can I
select any subtitles that would normally be on the DVD. Under the
Languages menu from Sound I merely have Auto, Audio 0, Audio 1,
Audio 2. They are all silent except Audio 0, which is Spanish. Help
please!!!

[Bug 221088] Re: Movie Player defaulting to Spanish

2008-09-16 Thread Chuck Coffing
Tested with CSI: Miami, second season, disc 1:

totem-gstreamer: Spanish (3 for 3 tries)
totem-xine: English
gxine: English

The gstreamer backend skips the DVD menu, which might be the cause of
this. With gstreamer, the settings are all wrong (Spanish, directory
commentary on, etc.) Xine backend goes through the DVD menu, and it all
works fine.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be
reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the
development release - Intrepid Ibex. It would help us greatly if you
could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next
release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release
at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your
help.

[Bug 221088] Re: Movie Player defaulting to Spanish

2008-09-08 Thread Daniel Schroeder
I can confirm the behavior. However, it is quite complicated. After
inserting a DVD, when totem-gstreamer starts up automatically, it will
often not play english. However, sometimes it plays one foreign
language, or another, or it plays the commentary track, or it does
actually play english. I can literally run totem-gstreamer multiple
times in a row, and see it play a different audio track in subsequent
runs, apparently at random. This will occur when totem-gstreamer auto-
starts from inserting a disc, or when starting totem-gstreamer manually
and choosing to play disc. I have not had any of these problems under
totem-xine.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please answer these questions:

* Is this reproducible (especially with other movies)?
* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?

This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug? Insert
a DVD Movie with Movie Player set as the default player.
