I think I have found the cause of the problem. I have create a new user on my real gutsy machine. The new user have not the problem. I have search for the file that store the status of the windows that make the problem. I have found the file ~/.config/gtk-2.0/gtkfilechooser.ini. When I copy my file to the new user the new user have the same problem. The content of the file ~/.config/gtk-2.0/gtkfilechooser.ini == [Filechooser Settings] LocationMode=filename-entry ShowHidden=false ExpandFolders=true == I can now reproduce the same problem in my VirtualBox gutsy VM but I can **not** reproduce it in my hardy VM. Sorry my English is bad, I hope I understand your question right. This bug comes only in my real gutsy installation. I can't reproduce this bug in my virtual gutsy and hardy installations. (see my first message). But I will try an experiment next time: copy the .-Files from my real home-directory to my virtual gutsy and hardy installations and see what happen. I use Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon 7.10 (See my first Message) I have reproduce the failure in Texteditor (gedit) and OpenOffice Textverarbeitung (OpenOffice WordProcessing).
