[Bug 256777] Re: POP server port setting is missing, setting other port then 25 not possible
Just in case anybody comes here again: Go to Edit Preferences Mail Accounts [select your account] Edit Receiving Email Here, under the title Configuration, you can specify the Server: pop.myprovider.tld[:port] where port defaults to 25. But this should be mentioned in a tooltip or in the help or something like that. -- POP server port setting is missing, setting other port then 25 not possible https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/256777 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 256777] Re: POP server port setting is missing, setting other port then 25 not possible
OK, enough. Comcast just changed from port 25 to 587 because 25 was too busy and now I am shut out of using Evolution Mail. I've had to switch to Thunderbird where I can put in the 587 port. Inconvenient and a bit more if you ask me. -- POP server port setting is missing, setting other port then 25 not possible https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/256777 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 256777] Re: POP server port setting is missing, setting other port then 25 not possible
like Sebastien Bacher already said, you can use 'server:portnumber' to specify a portnumber to use ... although I never found where to do that ... ? -- POP server port setting is missing, setting other port then 25 not possible https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/256777 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 256777] Re: POP server port setting is missing, setting other port then 25 not possible
at the same time as I did the Evolution update, the gmail service had some server issues (you can see it by multiple copies of my mails). now works everything fine again. sry for all the trouble. another confirmation how good dev evolution team is! thank you for this wonderful mail client. Re: [Bug 256777] Re: POP server port setting is missing, setting other port then 25 not possible
i agree, 25 is the default port. but not all servers work on port 25 and restricting any mail client to it IS a bad thing to do. i can't go to google with a gun and make them change their pop server port to the default value, do you agree? :))) i don't know why they don't use port 25 for gmail, but they don't. anyway, this is a bad idea from start not to allow user to set POP server port. setting the default value with possibility of changing it, is the right approach. evolution programmers are not bad - in contrary, evolution is a very good mail client for me (i love it). but this is a thing for a serious review, not being able to change the port is a major restriction, and i use linux and FOSS exactly because its highly customizeable. end conclusion: gmail is no more accessible with evolution because someone decided that software should overtake the control where it should not. i hope i will manage to come to evolution irc meeting and put this to discussion. not being able to set POP server port is just not acceptable for any serious mail client.
