I could play music behind a Squid proxy until authentication was enabled. Unfortunately now Rhythmbox encounters 407 Authentication required errors on the terminal when last.fm streams are played. The only visible problem the user sees is that Rhythmbox wants to find a codec for text/html, as the proxy server returns an HTML page with the error. Attempting to play radio stations results in a much more obvious popup which says Couldn't start playback with the error Proxy Authentication Required. I am using Rhythmbox 0.12.0. The proxy is set correctly (with credentials) in the Gnome configuration and in my ~/.bashrc. I built from source and this did not resolve the issue from me. If I enable crossfade playback (which by the way I have to quit and relaunch for the setting to take effect) I get no error popping up when trying to play a stream, but I get a stready stream of rb-player-gst- xfade.c:2601: not playing in the console when I launch with the -d option. If I disable crossfade, I get the same Couldn't start playback Cannot resolve hostname dialog as in the previous version. Let me know how I can help or what debug data I can provide. +1 for not working under 9.04 Jaunty. I get Couldn't start playback, Cannot resolve hostname for streams and podcasts. I have the proxy set up correctly, and if I view the properties of the stream and paste the URL into other apps, they can reach that destination (e.g. curl, Amarok, Firefox). Same problem here. After upgrading to Intrepid, Rhythmbox no longer gets the proxy settings from the gnome network proxy setting under system menu. Also, can't get the http_proxy environment variable to be used by Rhythmbox when using the terminal (exactly same as mentioned above).
