[Bug 288430] Re: gnome panel after copy changes to one icon affect the other

2009-07-12 Thread mihlub
err!!! I wish i can edit my comment. was it my writting this bad or
something get truncated in the forum. in any case i meant to say:

if i were to create the two firefox-icons on the desktop instead of on
the top panel, those icons retain the correct properties after a
reboot. but on the top panel the two icons/launcher would be exactly
identical.

2009-07-11 Thread mihlub
i see the same effect in ubuntu 9.04

i did not know the bug/feature exist until firefox 3.5 was released. to
make it easier to launch the version i want quickly i add two icon to
the top panel one for ver 3.0.11 and another one for 3.5 they work
perfectly as expected for this session. reboot and both of the icon
became identical in both icon image and properties. depend on which one
i modified last that one is the one remain after reboot.

weirdo, but i can not explan how it doe that.

the bug description is not clear, not confirming the issue on intrepid,
there is no reason the system launcher should change when doing an user
copy somewhere

[Bug 288430] Re: gnome panel after copy changes to one icon affect the other

2008-10-27 Thread Manfred Georg
How can I possibly make this clearer?!
I'll try again!

It is possible to create two icons on the panel which have the property that
when one of them
is changed (such as by changing the command it executes) the other will also
change (after a reboot).

How to reproduce.
- Install Intrepid (Beta), or Hardy.
- use control-click-drag to copy the original firefox icon into a neighboring
position on the panel, thereby creating a copy of it.
- right click on the NEW icon and select properties.
- Edit the command line in properties (such as by adding --no-remote -P
profile2)
- reboot
- the original icon will now execute the modified command

The same procedure can be used to change the icon picture of the
original firefox icon by modifying the copies icon picture.

oh, you copy a launcher and not a menu item, that's not a bug, the copy
is not a copy but a symlink to the other launcher

[Bug 288430] Re: gnome panel after copy changes to one icon affect the other

2008-10-27 Thread Manfred Georg
Ok, if that is the expected behaviour (I I don't think it should be, as
it is very counter intuitive) than how come the behaviour changes if I
copy the copy?

- Install Intrepid (Beta), or Hardy.
- use control-click-drag to copy the original firefox icon into a neighboring
position on the panel, thereby creating a copy of it.
- use control-click-drag to copy the copy of the icon into a neighboring
position, thereby creating a second copy.
- right click on the FIRST COPY's icon and select properties.
- Edit the command line in properties (such as by adding --no-remote -P
profile2)
- right click on the SECOND COPY's icon and select properties.
- Edit the command line in properties (such as by adding --no-remote -P
profile3)
- reboot
- the original icon will now execute the FIRST COPY's command, the SECOND COPY
will execute the correct command.

This is inconsistent behaviour.

[Bug 288430] Re: gnome panel after copy changes to one icon affect the other

2008-10-25 Thread Manfred Georg
Sorry I didn't make myself clear. A similar procedure is able to make the icon
change as well. The problem is clearly that the icons are sharing the same
data. They are identical after a reboot, and are both the same as the last
change
that was made to either one. I've personally done it with the icon picture and
command
settings, but I assume it also works with title and comment.

Again, I've only seen this when copying the original firefox icon after
a fresh install.

not confirming the bug on intrepid, why would any icon change when
editing the command?
