[Bug 29237] (EXCHANGE) scanning folders stalls

2006-03-21 Thread drakaan
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/29237

Comment:
You're welcome...

Okay. FC5 reports that it's running evolution 2.6.0 and exchange-
connector 2.5.92-1 (haven't specifically looked up evolution-exchange-
storage version yet).

Initially, I got mixed results. On my first run-through, exchange-
storage crapped out on FC5, too. I started evolution again, and got a
bit farther, then on the third try, I checked the save password box
and got further still.

The fourth try has been downloading messages, etc (without stalling) for
about 10 minutes...I'll let you know what happens next.

Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/29237

Comment:
Well, true, but I wanted to initially see if something just plain went
wrong with my install. Reinstalled, updated, re-checked for updates,
and I have the same problem. I'm going to test FC5 on the same box,
same network, same exchange server, and see if I get the same problem.

I'm not sure what version of evolition FC5 is using (or what patches
redhat may have in place), but I'll try that and test again. This is a
decidedly non-production box (it's my windows-replacement-viability
testbed machine), so wringing it out a few dozen times is fine as far as
I'm concerned.

I'd just really like to figure out what evolution-exchange-storage is
choking on. Ubuntu is primed to replace Windows XP on my desktop,
barring this particular issue. Outlook/Exchange is a big part of my
daily activity list, so if it doesn't work, I can't make the switch.

So you have the package with the patch already installed. It must have a
different reason things are breaking for you.

I think I'll try completely removing it and adding it again. Are there
any particular files or config settings I need to get rid of to make
sure it's completely gone?

Is there any benefit to me trying to get it built from source vs. using
the most recent ubuntu package?

According to uname -a:

Linux dal-lnx-ws01 2.6.12-10-386 #1 Mon Feb 13 12:13:15 UTC 2006 i686
GNU/Linux

so I suppose i386...it looks like there's a newer version of e-data-cal-
factory.c in cvs than the one I downloaded, and I tried compiling that,
but I'm trying to get all of my dependencies straight first.

Is there a newer .deb package I can grab?

I just realized that the patch is already applied at evolution-data-

dpkg -l evolution\*

I'll need to grab source and recompile after patching, right?

Sorry for the delay in responding...hadn't seen any response for a

The backtrace matches upstream

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=317897 which has a bug for
that. Do you know how to rebuild a package with a patch? Could you give
a try with evolution-data-server with the patch pointed?

Thank your for your bug. Could you get a backtrace of the crash? You can
attach gdb to 'evolution-exchange-storage' by running gdb -p $(pidof
evolution-exchange-storage), when the app crash you should have a
corresponding message to gdb and the UI should be frozen, enter thread
apply all bt on the prompt then and copy that to a comment

Here's another error that I had (until 2 minutes ago) only seen once.

The application 'evolution-exchange-storage' has quit unexpectedly

This time around, scanning folders never had a chance to get hung, since
this error hit first. Bug Buddy apparently doesn't know about evolution
either...screenshots available upon request.
