ma you please stop assigning this to gnome-system-monitor? this is not related to it, reassigning to cups instead. ** Changed in: cupsys (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: gnome-system-monitor = cupsys -- The CUPS server could not be contacted after update to Intrepid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/293584 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-system-monitor in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

JGK, sorry for late reply. After getting the latest updates today, the problem is fixed for me. The workarround described above (adding the line '/etc/init.d/cups.dpkg-new start' into the file /etc/rc.local) will not work any more and should imho be revoked if already implemented. Same for me. Reason seems to be, that starting cups is now done via /etc/init.d/cups.dpkg-new and not cupsys any more. There is an brocken symlink called cups pointing to cupsys! Adding /etc/init.d/cupsys.dpkg-new start to /etc/init.d/rc.local solves the problem though may be not the recommended way. Best Regards Pit63 -- The CUPS server could not be contacted. pit63, Thanks, however as I'm not totally linux literate, i am assuming there is a file these commands should be put in. Can you give me further instructions.
