I confirm that selection still behaves strangely on some pdf file, especially with multiple columns. I use evince 3.14.1 and poppler 0.26.5 on debian jessie. As per request, a PDF that has issues with highlighting. Try selecting part of a bulleted line without selecting the bullet. The first bullet item on the second page always shows the problem for me.
