The same happens in Totem and MPlayer with some .avi videos. I saw the easy fix Tom wrote on 2008-11-20, but Im new to Ubuntu and didnt know how to do it. Maybe try easy fix: run gstreamer-properties click on video output(or something like that) under plugin select X Window System (no Xv) then restart totem. I don't know if it is the same problem but sounds similar. I was going to say Ubuntu 8.14 wow, can i get one but then i noticed the details under the question. You're using DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.04 buddy.
