I just got hit by something very similar to this on jaunty.
I left my laptop go down until 3 min of battery, then put it to suspend, went 
eat, 15-20min later I picked it up, plugged the AC power, and resumed it (from 
suspend to memory).
When Desktop was reached it hibernated again (to disk, this time).

I guess this happened because when the system resumed, the power level
was lower then the value set to act (even though the AC was now ON), and
I have my system set to hibernate when on critical power.
