Binary package hint: gdm

Display freezes during login  when nVidia accl graphics driver (version
177) is selected. The nvidia logo is partly seen along with vertical red
dotted streaks and random white rectangular patches. Then the display
goes blank. no mouse or keyboard activity.

Curr display only works with 'vesa' mode a@ 800x600 resolution again
with blue dotted vertical lines overlayed on the screen.

CPU: Intel quad core Q6600 @ 2.4 Ghz, 
Motherboard: S975XBX2 
RAM: 4Gb DDR2 800 mhz, 
Display Card: nvidia Geforce 8600 GT on a PCI Express slot,
Monitor: 22 inch viewsonic lcd monitor.

Release: 8.10 Intrepid ibex 64bit
Kernel Linux 2.6.27-7-generic
Gnome 2.24.1
