Ubuntu 8.04 - confused this new user. Agree with Q.E.D - in addition supported disc types is wrong. My writer supports +R -R +RW -RW for CD and DVD. Have written to most of those successfully. I believe this bug should be re-opened. The current error message (Feisty) that I receive is the following: Reload a rewritable or blank disc Please replace the disc in the drive with a supported disc with at least 4.6 GiB free. The following disc types are supported: DVD+R DL Most discs report their capacity in GB, rather than GiB, and this is very easy for a user to overlook. Furthermore, the part about disc types (though important if that is in fact the issue) adds to the confusion because it draws attention away from the capacity issue. In the case above I am trying to burn data onto a 4.7GB DVD-R disc. So, if I don't notice the GB vs. GiB, then I think my drive is having a problem writing to DVD-R format discs. Sure I eventually realized my problem, but not immediately and maybe others will not. I imagine there are many ways to address this issue, but how about this: add to the error message some note about how much space (in GiB since that is what Nautilus is using) is available on the disc? Or mention both GB and GiB. Something like either Reload a rewritable or blank disc The inserted disc can hold only 4.4GiB. Please replace the disc in the drive with a supported disc with at least 4.6 GiB free.
