Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

I wanted to add: 'deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com intrepid main restricted
universe multiverse' to '/etc/apt/sources.list'.

At first '/home/$USER# gedit /etc/apt/sources.list' and '~$ sudo gedit
/etc/apt/sources.list' would not work.

I could type the command in the terminal, but nothing happened:

r...@thomas-laptop:/home/thomas# gedit /etc/apt/sources.listr...@thomas-
laptop:/home/thomas#

and:

tho...@thomas-laptop:~$ sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
[sudo] password for thomas:
tho...@thomas-laptop:~$

After that I did:

'~$ apt-get source gedit'

and:

'/home/$USER/# apt-get install gedit ; apt-get build-dep gedit ; dpkg-
reconfigure gedit'

Then I updated everything:

r...@thomas-laptop:/home/thomas# dpkg --configure -a ; apt-get -fmy
--force-yes --fix-missing install ; apt-get -fmy --force-yes --fix-
missing update ; apt-get -fmy --force-yes --fix-missing upgrade ; apt-
get -fmy --force-yes --fix-missing dist-upgrade ; dpkg --configure -a ;
apt-get -fmy --force-yes --fix-missing install ; apt-get -fmy --force-
yes --fix-missing update ; apt-get -fmy --force-yes --fix-missing
upgrade ; apt-get -fmy --force-yes --fix-missing dist-upgrade

Now it just hangs instead of doing nothing:

r...@thomas-laptop:/home/thomas# gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

^Z
[2]+ Stopped gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

[3]+ Stopped gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
r...@thomas-laptop:/home/thomas#

tho...@thomas-laptop:~$ sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

[1]+ Stopped sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
tho...@thomas-laptop:~$ gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
