Thank you, that valgrind log spots that real issues (Invalid read of
size 1) which probably leads to your crasher. I've forwarded that
upstream: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=332426

I'll let you know soon when there is a fix to try

I've uploaded the new pango package to dapper, it will be available
soon. Other way you can dpkg -i --force-all the .deb for now if you
want

Thanks for the valgrind log. It points several issues but not the places
they happen because you run a non-debug version of gdm. Could you build
and install a debug package
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash)? In case you don't want
to bother with that we can put one online, what architecture do you use?

I'm getting an install error from dpkg, it's telling me I need a newer
version of libpango than is in the repos, here's the message:

dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of gdm:
 gdm depends on libpango1.0-0 (= 1.11.6); however:
Version of libpango1.0-0 on system is 1.11.5-0ubuntu1.

Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/32034

Affects: gdm (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
The GDM setup tool gdmsetup crashes every time I attempt to use it. I
tried running it as sudo gdmsetup and I got the error:

*** glibc detected *** free(): invalid pointer: 0x0846a230 ***
Aborted.

Then I tried running it as gksudo gdmsetup and got this error:

*** glibc detect8|8(7ed *** double free or corruption (fasttop):
0x08461c18 ***

I am running the latest update of dapper (gnome 2.13.91), although it
did it with gnome 2.13.90 too.

Comment:
Thanks for your bug. Could you get a backtrace of the crash of a valgrind log?
- sudo gdb gdmsetup
(gdb) run
... crash
(gdb) thread apply all bt

Or install valgrind and run sudo valgrind gdmsetup

You can copy the log to a comment. Did you have any custom value to
/etc/gdm/gdm.conf-custom?
