i have this problem too. Ubuntu version - 11.10 keyboard set to UK There are 9 hotkeys across top of keyboard, only web, mail and search buttons work. If I try and add extra shortcut for say, help, it shows press shortcut key but does not respond to pressing the hotkey with the '?' I can confirm this on Feisty. Rhythmbox is erratic, and while amaroK used to capture the keys without focus, that fails now under GNOME. Under XFCE everything is good. by GNOME capplet I'm assuming you mean in System-Preferences-Keyboard? Generic 105 key (intl.) PC with a United Kingdom layout. I should add however that all my multi-media keys work (at least the default ones like volume up, down, mute, etc... ). What doesn't work is if I try and set new ones (Play, Stop, Forward, etc ). More details in comment #2.
