[Bug 39128] Re: gnome-sound-properties: No list-box for when one gets to the username/password screen
Those setting don't come from the softwares, the sounds are an user setting coming from the control-center, the login drum comes from gdm and are a system setting, not an user one. I'm closing the bug since that's not a bug. Feel free to argue upstream if you think the design should be modified, but that's not something we are wanting to do in a distribution specific way ** Changed in: gnome-session (Ubuntu) Status: Unconfirmed = Rejected -- gnome-sound-properties: No list-box for when one gets to the username/password screen https://launchpad.net/bugs/39128 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 39128] Re: gnome-sound-properties: No list-box for when one gets to the username/password screen
Fair enough. I didn't realise when I posted that I was missing system and user sounds. I do repeat, however, that this is a confusing situation for users. -- gnome-sound-properties: No list-box for when one gets to the username/password screen https://launchpad.net/bugs/39128 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 39128] Re: gnome-sound-properties: No list-box for when one gets to the username/password screen
I have fixed this. The sound in question can be turned off under Login Window Preferences Accessibility Sounds Login Screen Ready. I realise now that this is because these sounds are system-wide and not a user preference. This is *not*, however, an intuitive place to find the setting. Could a System Sounds link of some kind be placed in the Preferences Sounds Menu? -- gnome-sound-properties: No list-box for when one gets to the username/password screen https://launchpad.net/bugs/39128 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 39128] Re: gnome-sound-properties: No list-box for when one gets to the username/password screen
Hi Daniel. I am re-opening this bug because I do not believe that it is a dupe. I had the problem that is discussed in Bug #3517 and, as that report says, it was fixed. The issue in that bug was that, even when the login and logout sounds were set to no sound, they still played. The login and logout sounds referred to are the ones that are in Gnome Sound Properties already, it is just that changing them made no difference. This bug is not the same as that. There are two login sounds, which may have caused the confusion: - When I start the machine, I get a drumroll noise when I get to the username/password screen. This is not mentioned anywhere in the Gnome Sound Properties and occurs before one gets to the issue in Bug #3517. - When one enters their username and password they get the Vooom-ooom-m noise that is referred to as the login sound in Bug #3517. ** Changed in: gnome-session (Ubuntu) Status: Rejected = Unconfirmed ** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 3517 Login sound cannot be turned off -- gnome-sound-properties: No list-box for when one gets to the username/password screen https://launchpad.net/bugs/39128 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
