Now plays DVD in lucid A3,though still has some some bugs - note screenshot. and going to next or previous chapter. I assume update of bad plugins made differance. Same issue if I try to read directly a dvd inserted with totem. Tried plugins-ugly - got distorted video, good audio,and error message was gone,but totem said I needed gstreamer element dvdspu. Installed plugins-bad,it corrected video,but audio gone.
