[Bug 45100] Re: Icons for .java .class Files

2010-05-20 Thread Leo
Why is it invalid for sun-java and other java packages?

I know many packages who change mime icons when installed.

And about the answer upstream, well fortunately we live in the FLOSS
world and Ubuntu is not forced to be restricted by such Gnome
idiosyncrasies.

[Bug 45100] Re: Icons for .java .class Files

2010-04-21 Thread Vish
This has been fixed with the release of humanity-icon-theme 0.5.1 in
Lucid , we added several MIME specific icons.

To test :~$ touch test.java
or $ touch test.class

You *will* notice the java specific mime icon.

However , if you edit the file the icon with the text preview will be shown.
This text preview is a feature that that been requested in several bugs . If
you do not prefer not to have the text preview , you can remove the following
files:
/usr/share/icons/Humanity/mimes/../text-x-preview.icon
/usr/share/icons/Humanity/mimes/../text-x-preview.svg

That will show the text preview always , irrespective of the edits.

[Bug 45100] Re: Icons for .java .class Files

2010-04-19 Thread Richard Laager
Please set this as a bug that Affects: Ubuntu then until someone can
decide the right place for it. I can't see to figure out how to do that.
Otherwise you're effectively closing the bug. That's fine, if you want
to say it's not a bug at all, but nobody has said that yet.

The Java package would make sense if this were a case where there was
just one relevant package. For example, I maintain a package in Debian
that provides an icon for its own data files. But here, there are
several Java runtimes. Which one should provide the icon? If it's just
one, you'd have to have that one installed to get an icon, which is bad
if you want another. If it's all of them, that's needless duplication
(and inconsistency if they don't provide the same exact icon) and you
have to plumb it through the alternatives method. These seem like bad
tradeoffs. So, to me, it seems like either the icon should be provided
by a central icon package or there should be a package for the Java
icons that every Java runtime would depend on (which is a lot of
overhead, I think).

Without the import statement, it registers as C++. Either way, though, I'm not

Open nautilus. They show with a generic text file icon. I have the
option (at least I think it's an option) to show text snippets in the
icon enabled, if that matters.
