I'm sorry Pedro but I don't even remember what machine this was. I think it
might have been my old HP which has been upgraded to Ubuntu 10 and I believe
is OK now.
I realize getting around to these issues can take a while but, WHEN did I
submit this?

Sound works fine under windows so it's not the hardware. No sound or music
