I am also having the same problem with my contact list and as normal have attempted all steps that have been provided. I have a fully patched Dapper installation. This bug occurs for me. I only have one address book (personal) and no contacts are associated with a category. When receiving an email I can add the sender or other recipients to my contacts. These will appear just fine in the contacts perspective. However these new contacts are not accessible when composing mail either by the contact completion mechanism or opening the to: (or cc:) dialog box. This can be fixed in 2 ways. In the contacts perspective, select the new contact, right click and select move to address book. There is no category all in the dialog which follows the To button. I would have to assume that a new user would have no problem since any new contacts that are added work fine. It is just the contacts from the prior version of Evolution that are having problems. The non-selectable contacts were added in a prior version of Evolution from Fedora Core 3. More info: if a new contact is added by way of right-clicking on an address associated with a message that is being viewed, the new address will work as expected.
