[Bug 505168] Re: Evince deletes temporary image file obtained from PDF as soon as PDF is closed

2010-01-11 Thread madbiologist
instead of in another window of itself? Umm, what exactly _did_ you
do in step 2? To reproduce the bug I opened an empty second evince
window by typing evince in a terminal (without the quotes) and then
dragged and dropped the image from the original PDF file in the other
Evince window. I was a bit surprised that Evince displayed it at all,
instead of giving an error, but if that's the program you are trying to
use it will do it's best to open/display the file, rather than call
another program. Is it even possible for evince to call another
program? We are not talking about file associations in Nautilus here.

I think you should just settle for not doing what you did. Use the
right-click - Save Image As... feature instead. If anyone else is
reading this, feel free to disagree.

Oops, I should have said to reproduce your original report, given that
I have marked this bug as invalid (meaning that I don't consider it to
be a bug.

[Bug 505168] Re: Evince deletes temporary image file obtained from PDF as soon as PDF is closed

2010-01-11 Thread Roshan George
I sort of accidentally stumbled on this feature because of my touchpad.
I'll detail Step 2 if it will help.

Step II broken down:

1. Click on an image in the part of the Evince window displaying the PDF.
2. Drag the image a little bit (a few pixels is sufficient)
3. Drop it on the same part of the Evince window displaying the PDF.
4. Ta-dah! It displays in a new Evince window.

I'm perfectly satisfied to use the Right-Click - Save Image As...
feature but the thing is that sometimes it's iffy because there's text
embedded in the PDF and that gets selected and I don't get the right
context menu. If, however, I do the drag thing I can instantly tell
what's happening (either I'm getting the image, or text is getting
selected).

[Bug 505168] Re: Evince deletes temporary image file obtained from PDF as soon as PDF is closed

2010-01-10 Thread madbiologist
Not surprising really. After all, Evince is a document viewer, not an
image viewer.

Just right-click on the image in the original PDF and select Save Image
As... I didn't specify an extension and ended up with a PNG file.

2010-01-10 Thread Roshan George
Oh okay. Why doesn't Evince open it in with the default image viewer
then, instead of in another window of itself? Should I report that as a
wishlist bug or just settle for not doing what I did?
