It should always work even. If empathy has not started up yet, start up empathy, transfer and possibly quit after transfer. I just added the regression-potential tag as this bug is present in Lucid but not in Karmic. @Roman: this bug report is purely about not being able to send via IM even when Empathy is not started, which means the functionality doesn't work at all. @guigui14100: you need Empathy to be started first, otherwise Nautilus doesn't have access to the list of contacts. To do that, click on the envelope at the top of your screen, select Empathy and wait for it connect. Once you've done that, you can send a file to a contact via Nautilus. It makes sense as it would be impossible to send a file without being logged in in the first place. I'm changing it to Invalid.
