could you try on hardy and confirm you get the issue when a nautilus
dialog is open? if you don't open a dialog and desactivate the
background rendering nautilus is not running until you open a dialog

[Bug 53184] Re: toggling show desktop setting fails

2008-06-25 Thread Kasper Peeters
The show_desktop flag works (on Hardy) when a nautilus window is open.
It's still perhaps a bit confusing. It would help if there was a
preferences setting for 'show desktop' which would fire up nautilus if
necessary (presumably this logic does not belong to gconf-editor).

[Bug 53184] Re: toggling show desktop setting fails

2008-06-25 Thread Sebastien Bacher
that would require some code running all the time only to watch this key
in case nautilus is not running, the option is not changed often enough
and opening a nautilus dialog is easy enough, that's not worth using
ressources only for this corner case, closing the bug

Confirmed in edgy eft k2 too. I found a stupid workaround. Run a
terminal, type nautilus, then you get a new instance of nautilus and
icons on desktop! Close nautilus and desktop disappeares and returns!

[Bug 53184] Re: toggling show desktop setting fails

2006-07-16 Thread Carthik Sharma
Added remote bug at the GNOME bt.
It appears that the upstream developer (Sebastien :) ) seems to think that
nautilus is not running -- however Nautilus is running when the gconf change is
made.

Thanks a lot!
