there's a bug upstream about this: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=555930. comment from the maintainer: The playlist isn't the object you're manipulating, you're manipulating videos. Contrast this to a word processor where you're actually manipulating the document, not the individual pages or words. If you opened the playlist using one of the file choosers, it should re-use the same directory when you're about to save.
