Your logs show that your xserver is crashing but your kernel is still not lucid default. Your Xorg.0.log shows that you are using a) Lucid with a non-default kernel or b) Maverick. Option a goes unsupported, b is ok if if you run the apport-collect command again. Please go back to Lucid's default kernel or run the apport-collect command again. In addition, please attach /var/log/gdm/:0.log and /var/log/gdm/:0-greeter.log but feel free to replace any private data with * or something similar. You might need admin privilegies to access gdm's log folder. I have the same problem too. nvidia geforce2 MX400 card. Problem persists with both noveau and nvidia binary 96 driver. Reinstalling driver does not help. using the system by going through safe mode and booting into low graphics mode. this way it does not freeze, but poor screen resolution.
