WoooHooo. So 'upgrading' to the alpha test version before it gets released seems to be an answer! :)) Superb :) Normally i would say take great care about this sort of thing. Perhaps install the alpha as an addition to your dual/multi-boot so that you can keep using the existing one when you fiond something doesn't work in the alpha/beta. In linux that is easy, just add a small partition and away it goes. In Windows you really don't have good options without delving into re-coding their boot-loader. If this is 'just a server side problem' then could we agree on how to present them a better way of presenting this? At the moment they are not very technically minded and just use the defaults from the kit they are using. I did contact them once a while ago but would recommend caution in contacting them in the future as they are really good people but might get scared off by anything too complicated. Potentially they might one day, a far off day, be potential linux users so lets try to avoid scaring them. @NoBugs! - The green video is a known issue on Lucid - see comment 19 (in the context of comment 1). It works with updated gstreamer packages - see comment 25. I've just tested it on Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat alpha2, updated to the latest gstreamer packages (without any PPA's) and can report that it works! You should be able to select copy and open that with the normal totem program (outside the browser), it will show all green. There is also a problem viewing this in mac os, it shows up all green for awhile, then it shows the picture. Excellent question Tom. The short answer is that HTML5 is not relevant to this bug. While there are many aspects to HTML5, the one you are probably thinking about is the new video element. This enables video to be directly embedded in a web page and played back by any web browser which supports the HTML5 video element, without the need for a third party player plugin such as Flash or Quicktime or Totem. That's basically it, but there is a bit more to it - the web browser has to support the codec that the video is encoded in (something which is discussed in the second link in the previous sentence). This is where Google's new WebM format comes in - it is a strict subset of the popular Matroska (.mkv) format and uses Google's new VP8 video codec and the ogg vorbis audio codec. YouTube has had a HTML5 beta option available for a while now - they launched it prior to the announcement of WebM and have recently added WebM support. The latest Firefox nightly builds (available from http://nightly.mozilla.org/webm/ ) also support HTML5 video in the WebM format.
