I've also poked a bit in the source, it seems that the path and options
to the xserver are now hardcoded in the source in current versions of
gdm.
** Description changed:
Binary package hint: gdm
in gdb-2.20 (gdm-legacy) in karmic, gdm could be configured to work with
- gdm by editing /etc/gdm/gdm.conf:
+ xvfb by editing /etc/gdm/gdm.conf:
- sed -i s,/usr/X11R6/bin/X,/usr/bin/Xvfb, /etc/gdm/gdm.conf
- sed -i s,VTAllocation=true,VTAllocation=false, /etc/gdm/gdm.conf
+ sed -i s,/usr/X11R6/bin/X,/usr/bin/Xvfb, /etc/gdm/gdm.conf
+ sed -i s,VTAllocation=true,VTAllocation=false, /etc/gdm/gdm.conf
since lucid, there is no gdm-legacy package more around.
This configuration is useful for using freenx or nomachines NX server in
an ubuntu container like LXC, openvz or linux vserver.
