Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

The current lucid version of empathy, listed by ubuntu as 2.30.0,
automatically and without warning logs all chats. There is not option
to disable the logging. This is a significant privacy and security
problem.

I believe that in the current maverick version of empathy there is an
option to disable logging. https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy
The version of empathy apparently included in gnome release 2.32
included the disable logging option. I am afraid I cannot tell which
empathy version introduced the disable logging option.
