It was occurring in the Unity 2D and Gnome settings. It seems like it is related to Firefox and sites that update(e.g. Facebook). I would have Banshee playing an Internet radio station, Thunderbird open, and KOrganizer. When I would then click a link on facebook, that is when the system would freeze. Once it freezes, I can only move the cursor. It will not let me do anything else. Then I have to hold the power button to shut it off and then start it again. I have tried letting it sit to see if it would come out of it (memory issue). I also ran a scan on the memory and found no issues.
