Till -- I installed the packages in -proposed, into my Intrepid machine as requested, undid the work around I described on 01/18 (above) and restarted CUPS. The printer produces correct output. I then used HPLIP to first delete and then install a new instance of my printer. That too produces correct output. Apparent success! Thank you again for your assistance.
